Rev. Jackson came up from the AME Zion Church and discussed with the
Board the situation of the Young Street facility. Barney went over
with Rev. Jackson the past events at Young Street and events leading
up to the decision to discontinue maintenance of the facility. Rev.
Jackson commented that he had heard stories but that he wanted to
come up and get the Board's comments. That he was interested in the
facility and wanted to get it going again. The Board stressed to him
the importance of Adult participation and supervision. That they would
support any program that they got started when we saw the community doing
something to make it work. Rev. Jackson thanked the Board and said he
would go back and report what they had talked about.
Charlie Smith came before the Board at this time and talked with them
about the men's softball program. He mentioned that he had already
gotten calls asking about reserving the use of Stimpson Field. He suggested
to the Board charging $100 from teams for tournament play. Also delegating
to one individual the authority to say whether or not games should be
played in bad weather. That there were some problems last year as a result
of these two points. There is already a $50.00 charge that is refundable
if they clean up the field. After a lengthy discussion on this point,
Charlie said he was only bringing this up for thought, that he was leaving
it with the Board and left. The Board further discussed this and came up
with a motion by Don Smith to charge a $100 fee for tournaments for
capital improvement for Stimpson Field only. There was no second. Don
withdrew the motion. Al Johnson moved that a fee of $100(with $50.00 for
cleanup) be charged for tournament play on any Recreation facility where
there is a fee charged for participation in the tournament, and go in
capital improvement of that facility. Don Smith seconded and the vote
