The minutes of the July 22, 1981 meeting were approved with corrections
noted.
Barney recognized John Quinley with the Little League Football Program
who came to ask if it was all right for the Little League to use the
fields for practice. He was advised it was okey. He was apprised of the
fact that we wished to conserve utilities and please work with this as
much as possible.
Barney recognized Larry Thomas representing the Soccer Assoc. He remarked
that the registration would be September 2, 1981, with the first game
September 19. That they planned to have a single season ending in December
except for the high school that might play through February. He remarked
that he needed at least two more fields. It was suggested that possibly
they could utilize the new field at Volanta. He said this would be great,
and he would get with Eddie to coordinate use.
Barney brought up the tabled motion from the last meeting about hiring
someone to be responsible for turning on/off lights at the fields. Phil
was not present to report, Al suggested getting with the Mayor to see
what his thoughts might be about locking lights and having Police Dept.
responsible for turning off lights at 11:00 p.m. and report back next
meeting.
The bills were considered, Roy to check with Riviera on the Young Street
bill before payment is made. Roy moved to pay bills, Rae Jackson seconded
and motion carried unanimously.
The new building was discussed at Volanta, and what is left to be done.
A final inspection should be made with a punch list and Phil to be informed
to hold 10% until satisfied all in order.
Rae reported that she had talked with Mrs. Lindsey and is to meet with
a group wishing to have a memorial made for Mr. Lindsey, and she will report
back on that meeting.
Rae also reported she had her first band meeting and although response
was slow she believed it would get better as summer gets over. She is
to have another meeting next Tuesday.
Eddie said he will have a report on Cummings Hall by October meeting.
Barney mentioned we needed to have a special meeting the first of September
to talk about out budget. A date of September 2nd at 7:00 p.m. was set.
He also mentioned that he would have the booklets ready by next meeting,
and also that as a project for 1982 think about widening the press box
at the stadium. He also complimented Roy and Don on the way the field
was looking. Also on the stadium, Eddie mentioned painting over the advert
ing signs and putting Fairhope Municipal Stadium. All thought this would
look good.
Roy mentioned that we were going to soon start work on leveling the Babe
Ruth field and getting it back in shape in case anyone mentions it.
There was no word from the Y on how the swinming program went. The pool
closed last week. Eddie reported the swim team ended an a good note.
The Board discussed the possibility of getting money from the different
associations off the top for concessions. This was voted down.
Eddie reported that a group is trying to start a eastern shore jogging
association, and are to have a meeting Thursday night, also requesting
use of the track. There was no problem with this.
Meeting was duly adjourned.
