17 „ 1)81 at the Police Station at 7:00 p.m.
Those present: Al Johnson, Don Smith, Roy Lloyd
Programs Director Eddie Nelson and Facilities Dir-
ector Phil Rutherford
The minutes of the May 20, 1981 meeting were considered
and on motion by Roy Lloyd, seconded by Don Smith were
duly approved.
Eddie Nelson asked the Board's feelings on the erection
of a sign out at the Swimming Pool, by the swim club,
reading"Hoge of the Eastern Shore Swim Club". discussion
revealed that the Board did not mind the erection of such
a sign, but to have Rae Jackson oversee the project, also
to have it comply with the signs already there and it only
to be seasonal.
The Board at this time considered the opening of the bids
on the girls softball concession stand at Volanta Municipal
Park. It is noted thlat five bids were let(Russ Kilgore,
Eastern Shore Builders, Harvison Bldrs, Crittenden Bldrs
and Fred Dean) and only one received. Cliff Pittman
representing Crittenden was present to give their bid.
$19,359.00 to be finished within 60 days.
The Board on motion by Al Johnson, seconded by Roy Lloyd
voted to accept the bid submitted.(At this time George
Roberds came in and was informed that the bid had been
accepted).
The bills were considered, and on motion by Al Johnson,
seconded by Roy Lloyd were approved for payment after
some discussion about the chemicals ordered for the pool
prior to having the "Y" take it over. Phil asked the Board
to go ahead and authorize payment for the bill coming in
from Thoss Sporting Goods for bases as it needed to be
paid prior to the next meeting. Tbley so moved.
Under old business, Al brought out that they needed to
get together and go over to Ladd Stadium. All wished to
go and said they would get together and go before the next
meeting.
All remarked how nice the pool looked.
Eddie reported on the softball tournaments scheduled for
Stimpson. That we were going to have the biggest ever in
Fairhope. One with 60-75 teams beginning July 23 for a week.
He also mentioned that the Girls Softball asked to be allowed
to have the concessions. The Board so moved. Roy reported
that the Dixie Youth, minor and major were going to have
tournaments beginning 7/20. Al brought up that he had some
complaints about the amount of practice some teams were having.
He wished Eddie to convey to Vann Saltz that practice should
be limited. Eddie said he would.
The Board discussed some way to repay George Stabler for the
spraying he did on the football and softball fields, as he
would not submit a bill. Something is to be worked up.
There was some discussion on the Young St. facility.
Meeting was duly adjourned.
