HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-05-1981 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met on March 5, 1981 at 7:00 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue Fairhope, Alabama Those present Chairman Barney Shull; members Rae Jackson Al Johnson, Programs Director Eddie Nelson and Facilities Director Phil Rutherford The minutes of the January 14, 1981 meetings were considered and amended to show that Eddie Nelson was hired at a salary of $200 a month instead of the $100 shown. Al Johnson moved to accept the minutes as corrected. Rae Jackson seconded and motion carried. Barney at this time recognized Bill Albert and Ann Girdler who were present representing the swim association, Bill Albert presented a letter to the Board(attached) and remarked that they would like to start in early May. He outlined the letter and said they would be willing to work with the Y if they ran the pool this year. The Board thanked them for coming and said they saw no problems with the plans they presented Barney said that he had gotten an answer from the insurance company on the indemnification for the basketball program, that we were covered on our programs but the school's programs would not be covered. The Board directed Barney to get back with Geoff Cain and give them the flat figure and tell them we will not buy the insurance policy. The bills were considered.Phil mentioned that the people from Southern Sprinkler still did not have the system working as it should. That we did not have enough pressure at the Babe Ruth field for the system to work properly. We would have to go with a bigger size of pipe to get it to work properly. The Board on motion by Al Johnson, seconded by Rae Jackson moved to have the City install the larger pipe. Al Johnson moved to pay the bills as presented, Rae Jackson seconded and motion carried unanimously. Rae mentioned that the newspaper was suppose to take pic:tunes at the Jasmine Street Park on Friday, and asked those who wanted to come. She also mentioned that she was going to get some plants to put in at Stimpson Field as originally discussed. Barney mentioned that he had been out of town a lot but would have the plans on the Girls Softball ready by Monday. That he had talked to 'Vivian Smith and told them that he doubted the field would be ready by this season, he gave her a layout of the concession stand, but it would take at least 60 days to complete once it got started. Phil mentioned that Aaron had gone out on bids for the poles and lights. We still need to get bids for fencing, shells and the concession building. At this time the Board considered the conflict between the Soccer Assoc. and the Softball Assoc. that we had a request from the Softball Assoc, to began their season earlier. discussion led to it being decided that Soccer would end March 28th and Softball begin March 29th. It was also discussed that there needed to be a break in the seasons in order to work on the field. That for 1982 the field would be closed beginning 3/l/82 until 3/28/82. This was put in the form of a motion by Al Johnson, seconded by Rae Jackson and unanimously carried. Rae asked for help and ideas in getting the Art Program started The Board offered what the programs had consisted of in the past. The booklet outlining the Recreation Programs was discussed and a deadline of June 1 was set as the time they would be ready. The Board voted to have a meeting the 25th of March and have the Y come at that time and present their plans for the use of the pool -for the summer. There being no further business meeting was duly adjourned.
