The Board recognized Mr. Henry Postma and Mr, Henry Helton
of the Y.M.C.A. Mr. Postma remarked that he was not ready
at this time to give a complete report on the program the
"Y" sponsored at the pool this summer, he wished to get a
basic feeling from the Board on how they felt things went.
The Board discussed with him several things pro and con
they had observed. It was a general feeling on both parts
that they needed to work on personnel. Mr. Postma did re-
port that because of them not being able to open on time
it did contribute to their not breaking even. The Board
thanked them for coming and having this time of discussion
together.
It was reported that the Stimpson Field project had been
completed. The soccer league will open their season
September 26, 1980.
Roy Loyd reported that they only had five sign up for
the "flag football", someone was checking to see if that
was teams or individuals.
The little league football opened its season last Saturday.
Along this line, Don Smith brought up the deplorable condi-
tion of the restrooms at the football stadium. He wished
the Board to consider hiring someone on a permanent basis
to clean them. Discussion brought out that it was the high
school's responsibility when they were using the facility
but other organizations were responsible when they used it.
Barney suggested going to Grady Patrick and discussing the
problem with him. He said he could go Friday. Al said he
could go also. If this does not work we can then hire some-
body.
Trisha asked about the possibility of putting a new gate on
the visitor's side at the stadium. She remarked that there
had been some problems. She also asked how much it would
cost to add another exit for the band only on the home side.
Phil remarked that he thought it would run about $300.00
The Board expressed their appreciation to Don Smith for giving
the pipe that will be used to build the backstops to put
at the Middle School. Don Smith brought up that looking at
the bank balance we do have the money to buy bleachers.
Al moved at this time to purchase four sets of bleachers
from the low bidder,Rowley Co, S rows, 21 ft. long, all
aluminum at a cost of $4,476.00. Don Smith seconded and
motion carried unanimously.
At this time the girls softball field and what we wished
to do was discussed. Barney said he would like to get
with Tommie Werneth we see if matching funds are available
to fix the field up like we want it.
Trisha Nelson brought up fixing up the corner of Morphy
and Mershon Sts. at Stimpson Field and suggested Rae
look into the cost of some shrubbery for this. It was
also discussed getting a permanent sign erected.
The swim team using the pool for the winter was discussed
and the pros and cons of using the pool or shutting it
down because of the expense of utilities. It was suggested
writing Mr. Albert and seeing how many members the team
had and how many from Fairhope. If response is not good,
they might have to share in the utilities or close down
the program for the winter.
The Board requested a breakdown of the cost of each facility
each month on lights. The secretary to report next month.
There being no further busines , meeti g s y adjourned.
