HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-16-1980 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met for their regular meeting on April 16, 1980 at 7:00 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama Those members present: Chairman Barney Shull; Members- Trisha Nelson, Don Smith, Al Johnson, and Facilities Director Phil Rutherford The Board considered the bills, and on motion by Don Smith, seconded by Al Johnson they were approved for payment. Al Johnson asked the Board's recollection of the discussion about the scuba diving group he hoped to form. He was told that they remembered that he should get in touch with Henry Helton when he had enough people to get one started. A question was also raised about who would be purchasing the chemicals for the pool, the Y or the City. The understanding was that the Y would purchase and put the chemicals in the pool. Trisha reported that she had attended a meeting with the swim team group. It was asked when the repair work on the pool would begin. Phil R. reported that the man is suppose to get started Wednesday. The Volanta Street concession stand plans were discussed. Phil showed them to the members and remarked that they would be opening the bids on Monday, April 21, at 4:00 p.m, That he had mailed F.E.M.A. a copy of the letter the Health Department had sent on what we had to have at the Volanta Concession Stand. It was reported that the Stimpson project is moving along. That if the weather would hold up we could get it finished. The Young Street facility was discussed. Don Smith reported to the Board that he has been working with a group that hopes to start a program at the high school where the weight room, basketball courts, track and Mnn would be open at night for public use at a minimal charge. The school has said we could use the facilities. All the details have not been worked out but he will report more at the next meeting. There being no further business meeting was duly adjourned.
