HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-26-1980 Special MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met for a special meeting on March 26, 1930 at the City Administration Building,337 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama Those members present: Chairman Barney Shull, M-Embers Trisha Nelson, Don Smith, Al Johnson, Rae Jackson. Programs Director Roy Lloyd and Facilities Director Phil Rutherford. The bids for the concession stand at Stimpson Field were discussed as noted in the minutes of the March 19 regular meeting. Eastern Shore Builders the apparent low bidder at $23,931.00 will complete all work within 90 days. Al Johnson moved to accept this bid, Don Smith seconded provided it gets Council approval and is built in accordance with the plans and specifications set out. Motion carried unanimously. It was decided to go along with grass seed for Stimpson in order to cut short the time it would take in getting the field ready. The one bid we received for the pool repair was discussed(Gordon Bailey & Co. was asked to bid but did not reply). It was from Southern Shore Pools. (bid attached to the minutes) Roy Lloyd brought up that he had talked to the YMCA people and presented a four page proposal from them. The proposal was discussed and seemed very good. He was asked to notify them and see if they could meet with the Board next Wesnesday night at 7:00 for further discussion. Roy also presented the rules and regulations of the Eastern Shore Swimming Team to the Board members. The Board voted to accept the rules, regulations and by-laws with the stipulation that Fairhope residents cannot be turned down and furnish the Board with a list of personnel. Trisha Nelson made the motion, Al Johnson seconded and it carried Lmanimusly. Don Smith brought out that there needed to be a fence built at the football stadium where the team could go during the halftime and not be bothered that the inside of the dressing room facility was not large enough. Phil Rutherford said he will look into what can be done. Barney read the letter from the F.S.T.C. that they could not grant our request to use Stimpson Field rent free. They did not answer our question about the taxes paid. Al Johnson is to attend the lessees meeting in April as representative from the Board, Don Smith moved to pay the rent due, Rae Jackson seconded and motion carried with Al Johnson abstaining. Roy Lloyd brought out that last year we had given Bubba Sawyer $150.00 for the use of his truck during the summer and he had asked if this was going to be done this year. After much discussion Al Johnson moved, Don Smith seconded giving him this money. Motion carried. The possibility of keeping the two Port-O-Lets at the girls softball field were discussed seeing how they are already there from the Arts & Crafts. It was decided that the girls softball does not begin Lentil the first of May that we would retain one unit only until that time and see how it works. Don Smith moved, Al Johnson seconded, and motion carried unanimously. Al Johnson asked Phil if he could help redig the long -jump pit at the stadiu He said he would. Meeting was duly adjourned.
