The bills for the month were considered, and approved unanimously for
payment except the bill from FSTC for the second half of 1980 on Stir.pson F
held over until the March meeting, in hopes we might have an answer
to our request to make it rent free. Motion was by Trisha Nelson, seconded
by Rae Jackson.
At this time the Chairman recognized Lyle Underwood, the new principal
at Fairhope Middle School. Mr. Underwood mentioned that the school is
having projects to raise money. That he would like to take the money
and fix basketball courts at the school thereby creating some form of
physical education facility and helping to raise school spirit. He is
seeking help from the City thru the Recreation Board on leveling the courts
and filling it with clay. Phil Rutherford remarked he would look at the
area and get with Trisha Nelson and ultimately seek Council approval
on the project. Rae Jackson moved, Trisha Nelson seconded having Trisha
take this to the Council, motion carried unanimously.
Jerry Anderson came before the Board to discuss the softball association
being able to use St mpson Field this season. He asked about the progress
of the work and if we had a definite answer to give him, so he could pass
the information on, about when the field would be ready for use. He was
asked when the season began and he told them the middle of May. It was
talked about getting one side ready for use(two fields) by the time
the Softball Assoc. needed it and then posting signs to keep people off
the other two fields until all the work was complete. Rae Jackson moved
that we try to have the North fields ready for use by the middle of May
and not use the South fields until the fall season.
Randy Jones came before the Board to talk about setting up a place on
the beach for the rental of sailboats. He said he would bring in a
trailer with the boats and rent from the trailer during the daytime.
He said he would start off with five boats and probably rent from
May to September. He was asked to get his proposal on paper and then
bring everything to the Board next month and they would make some recom-
mendation to the City Council.
The Stisnpson Field project was discussed. And a discussion led to
the remark being made that we needed to get three contractors to make
bids on the concession stand drawings. Phil Rutherford is to
coordinate getting the bids.
The phone at the pool was brought up, and it was decided to carry it
over since Roy Lloyd was not here to report if he was able to get
any help with it.
Phil Rutherford brought to the attention of the Board that Ernest Pickett
was due a raise, and he was recommending the Board grant him one. Al
Johnson moved and Rae Jackson seconded raising his salary to $3.25 an
hour.

Hurricane had blown down. That Mr. Cooper was almost finished with
the work at the Volanta Park. Trisha Nelson moved that we go out
