AIRPORT BOARD
October 11, 1963
Members present: Mr. Lacey, Dr. Mullins, and Mr. Byrne
Guests: Mr. Ack Moore
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved with
one correction noted. The minutes were altered to read
"wires at North end of the field be lowered" rather than
West end.
Mr. Byrne discussed the possibilities of electricity being
supplied to the airfield and the loweringof the wires. //
was suggested that Mr. Lacey draft a lettert
to REA and
Southern Bell Tel. and Tel. Co. from the Board stating that
the wires were a flight hazard and interfered with the air
space and request they be removed.
Dr. Mullins suggested that a letter be sent to Mr. George
âś“Fowler requesting his assistance in locating and procuring
surplus facilities. Mr. Byrne agreed to contact 14r. Fowler
in this matter.
Dr. Mullins discussed the possibilityy of the Air National
Guard Unit in Mobile being moved to Fairhope.
Dr. Mullins noted receipt of a letter from Mr. Wiles and Mr.
Keevan concerning Base Operations of the Airport.
Mr. Lacey moved that Mr. Wiles' and Mr. Keevan's letter not
be considered as an application. It was agreed by the Board
that a letter of acknowledgment be sent to them.
Dr. Mullins discussed his conversation with Mr. Jim Pope.
He announced that Southern Industries had decided that it
would be impractical to base their plane here.
Extension of the present field was discussed. briefly. Mr.
Moore commented that a 500 foot expansion would be possible.
Dr. Mullins introduced a booklet entitled "Digest of Disting-
uished Resorts." He suggested a letter bearing Mr. Pope's
signature be sent to the author of this booklet with a copy
of the questionnaire enclosed.
Excerpts of the questionnaire received from Piper Aircraft
was read by Dr. Mullins. He suggested that Mr. Byrne procure
10 more copies of the booklet "Aviation Fixed Base Operation."
,-A subscription to the magazine "Airport Services Management"
was approved by the Board.
Dr. Mullins suggested that a letter be sent to Halls Metal
`Products Co. for prices on "T" Hangers.
Mr. Byrne agreed to write trade organizations listed in the
booklet "Aviation Fixed Base Operation," for suggestions about
base operations.
Mr. Ack Moore discussed drainage and runway visibility.
The meeting was adjourned.
