The minutes of the August meeting were read and duly approved.
Haward Thelkeld addressed the Board and told of the damages done at the
tennis courts due to Hurricane Frederic. He remarked that three -fourths
of the fences were dawn. He apologized for not getting the windscreens
dawn, and remarked that they had done a good job. Phil Rutherford
told the Board that he had been going around with the disaster teams
and that the parks were covered and would be restored to haw they were
before the hurricane.
The bills were discussed. Trisha Nelson brought up the obvious difference
in the charge for paint and accessories at Material Sales and Fairhope Floor
Covering, and questioned why we seemed to be paying so much more. She
asked the secretary to question whether or not we were getting a discount
before paying the bill.to Material Sales and report back. The rest of the
bills were unanimously approved for payment.
The group from Young Street presented a recommendation to the Recreation
Board of their programs and the hiring of Woodie Blanks as the person they
wished to run the Young Street facility. They reported that they had been
having basketball games and dances trying to build up a fund. They also
reported the damage the hurricare had done. Roy Lloyd stated that Young Street
facility is in better shape now than it has ever been do to the efforts of
Mr. Blanks. Don Smith moved to allow payment of $150.00 for retaining Mr.
Blanks services at Young Street and a new amount to be discussed at the next
meeting to be held October 3, 1979 at which time the budget will be discussed.
Roy Lloyd reported on the football program that was in full swing. He told
the Board of the need for the Mobile teams to use our stadium because of
the extensive damage to the stadiums in Mobile. We have already agreed to
let the :^bbile Generals use the stadium for $500.00 on a one time basis,
and after that time we will decide whether or not we want to sign a contract
for the continued use of our stadium. It was decided to let !Trphv/Blount
play over here for $350.00 after lengthy discussion, on a one time basis,
(this was the price Roy Lloyd had quoted) but he found out that security
would run in the neighborhood of $600.00. They have asked to use it
October 1, 1979. If the expenses are more we will have to raise the fee.
Roy Lloyd asked the Board to allow him to pursue the use of Cummings hall
at the Organic School for a basketball program. The Board told him that
whatever they could work out would be fine with the Board.
The Board will hold a special meeting on October 3, 1979 at 7:00 p.m.
to discuss the budget for the coming year, and also to discuss the
status of the football situation.
There being no further business to discuss, meeting was duly adjourned.
