HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-25-1979 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met for their monthly meeting on July 25, 1979 at 7:30 p.m. at the City Administration Building 387 Fairhope Avenue with Chairman Barney Shull presiding. Those members present: Don Smith, Al Johnson, Roy Lloyd, Programs Director, and Phil Rutherford Minutes of June 13, 1979 meeting were duly approved, and bills approved. A delegation from Young Street with Clarence Bosby and Jerry Wainwright representing the large group, met with the Board. The Board members discussed the problems at Young Street and agreed there had been a breakdown in communications. A special meeting was set up for Wednesday, August 1, at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. All Board members agreed to attend and asked for a good turn out from the parents of Young Street. Barney Shull told the group that attended he appreciated the interest they have shown. Councilman Jack Stipes atteded this meeting and discussed with the Board the drains problems and parking at Stimpson Ball Park. Tony -de Werneth attended this meeting and discussed with the Board the Stimpson Field Project. The project is running over the original estinates. The Board authorized Tommie to file for an overrun expense for the project. Phil asked to take a wall out of the Adult Recreation Center so he could put in the pool table that was donated and be used. A motion was made by Al Johnson, seconded by Don Smith for $300.00 for this project. Motion carried unanimously. Roy Lloyd reported on the light turn out at the swimming pool. He dis- cussed ways to attract kids to the pool. Of course the weather had been a big factor in the decline of attendance. Roy and Don discussed the Soccer field problems. It was agreed the major league would play at the high school and the minor league at Volanta park:. There being no further business to come before it, meeting was duly adjourned at 10:30 p.m. ActVg Secretary
