HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-11-1979 Regular MeetingThe Park & Recreation Department of the City of Fairhope met for their monthly meeting on April 11, 1979, at 7:30 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama.. Those present: Chairman Barney Shull, Billy Don Wiggins Ed Nelson, Don Smith, Alton Johnson and Programs Director Roy Lloyd and Phil Rutherford The minutes of March 14, 1979 meeting were read and duly approved. Barney Shull reported that the handbooks of rules and regulations were almost completed. Stimpson Field was discussed with Phil Rutherford reporting that we were waiting on Jerry Anderson's big tractor. He was having to use it now for farming and we would have to wait until he could disc the field to do any more work. The bills were discussed and approved for payment on motion by Ed Nelson seconded by Don Smith, and unanimously carried. Phil Rutherford reported that he had requested a pay telephone be in- stalled at the Babe Ruth Park for the baseball season. This was budget- ed. Howard Thelkeld presented to Barney Shull quotations on having the torn windscreens fixed at the tennis courts. Ed Nelson moved to accept the low bid, Alton Johnson seconded and it was unanimously carried. The bids were as follows: Tennis Sales South, Inc. 287.07 Anchor Industries, Inc. 275.31 Otasco Store, Fairhope 371.21 Roy Lloyd presented to the Board his outline for summer employees as follows: Joe Dean - Grass cutting .................... 2,200.00 trim around areas tractor cannot reach ..................... 400.00 Scott Langham, Bubba Sawyer - Field mainten- ance and Swimming Pool Supervisors ............... Maintenance 1,600.00 ............... Sw.Pool Super. 2,400.00 Four Lifeguards ............................. 2,262.00 The swimming pool will be open seven days, 4 hours a day, beginning May 26th, swimming lessons will be offered. The Board also agreed to give $150.00 for the use of a truck and a tank full of gas a week. Ed Nelson put in the form of a motion accepting the program as outlined above, Don Smith seconded and it was unanimously carried. The Board put in the form of a motion recommending to City Council that the pool at Young Street be stripped of all useable equirAmnt and filled. The baseball season will open May 5th with an all day program including a fish fry. There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was duly adjourned. N
