HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-21-1979 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met for their monthly meeting on February 21, 1979 at 7:30 p.m. Those present: Barney Shull, Chairman Billy Don Wiggins Ed Nelson Don Smith Also representatives from the Young Street Recreation facility. The minutes of the January 10, 1979 meeting were read and unanimously approved. The bills for the month of February were presented and discussion was held on same. After all questions being answer- ed, on motion by Don Wiggins, seconded by Ed Nelson they were unanimously approved for payment. The people from Young Street questioned the Board on the re -surfacing and basketball courts that arein the works for Young Street. Their followed discussion on the poles and lights at the Young Street facility, and the group was told how we were trying to fill their needs down there. Ed Nelson presented to each member a revision of his "Bluebook" on rules for the associations patronizing the different fields the city has. It was to decided to hold a workshop March 13, 1979 at 7:00 p.m. to discuss further this matter. A discussion was held on the progress of the Stirnpson Field work. Because of the bad weather, the work has not been completed. A mid -summer use date was quoted on when .the work might be completed. The pool table that Mr. Patterson had bequested to the Adult Recrea- tion Center was brought up at this time. It was the feeling of all that it should be moved to the Adult Recreation Center to be used by them when they so desired, and not stored somewhere else . Barney presented a letter of agreement that he wished to be put on file with the Tennis Director setting out his duties. Ed Nelson brought out that he wished to know if there was any money available for lighting at the baseball field. There followed discussion of the present lights and how they had been positioned and repositioned at the request of the different organizations using the field. Phil R. told Ed he thought we had some lights stored that we could install there to help remedy the situation. Ed Nelson moved in the form of a motion to used these lights available, Don Smith seconded and it carried unanimously. Ed also brought up the possibility of using concrete in the dugout at the baseball field. Phil once again told him of the different things they had tried to use, gravel, asphalt, etc. and he thought the concrete would wear out the cletes. Ed put in the form of a motion getting two yards of concrete at a price not to exceed $80.00, Don Smith seconded, and motion carried unan- imously. A discussion followed on a replacement for the Recreation Board created by Ms. Montgomery moving to Colorado. Jimmye Smi.therman and Alton Johnson were discussed as being capable and willing to accept a Board appointment. These two names will be forwarded to the City Council for their consideration. STIPES BILLY DON WIGGINS Businesses, within the Police Jurisdiction, requesting a tax refund on cigarette tax paid to the City of Fairhope, Alabama, are required to furnish a copy of all receipts for which payment is requested.
