Minutes for the October 11, 1978 meeting
The Fairhope Park and Recreation Board met in regular session
on Wednesday, October 11, 1978 at 7:30 pm at the City Administration
Building, 387 Fairhope Ave. Fairhope, Alabama with Chairman Barney Shull
presiding.
Board members present: Billy Wiggins, Stephanie Montgomery, Ed Nelson
Don Smith and Facilities Director Phil Rutherford.
The minutes of the September 13, 1978 meeting were read and
approved as recorded. All bills were approved for payment.
The 1979 Recreation Budget was presented and adopted for $,5;,200.00.
See attached copy.
The Director and Co-ordiantor of the Adult Recreation Center,
Mr and Mrs Eugene Lindsey presented to the Board their budget for 1979.
See attached copy. Mr and Mrs Lindsey do an excellent job with the
center. Mrs Lindsey invited the Board members to a pot luck supper
Monday October 16, 1978.
Alfred Bosby was present to represent the Cummunity Minded People
of Young Street. The group wants to hire a new person to work at
Young Street. The salary will be $75.00 a month. The other $75.00 will
go for equiptment. This person will have to be presented to the Board
for approval. Mr Bosby ask that the Board match the $ 40.00 they
have raised towards a Holloween party for the children.
Motion made by Billy Wiggins seconded by Stephanie Montgomery. Motion carried
Motion made by Ed Nelson seconded by Billy Wiggins that Phil
Rutherford get prices on re -surfacing basketball courts at Young Street.
At a later date they can be extended to make more courts. A ceiling
price was set at $900.00. Motion carried.
Motion made by Ed Nelson, seconded by Stephanie Montgomery that
Barney Shull drew up a contract agreementfor Director -Co-ordinator
Howard Thelkeld to hold training sessions on the tennis courts. Motion Carrie,
Attention was brought to the Board by Ed Nelson for the need of a
good programs director. With the new Stimpson Field project there will
be a great need for one.
Phil Rutherford ask the Board for recommendations for the Young
Street pool. In its present condition it is dangerous to children.
The parking monies for the Stadium to date is $1751.99.
There being no further business to come before the Board the
meeting adjourned at 9:30 pm.
