HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-08-1976 Regular Meetingr THE FAIRHOPE PARK AND RECREATION BOARD Minutes for meeting Dec. 8, 1976 The Fairhope Park and Recreation Board met in regular session on Wednesday, December 8, 1976, at 7:30 P.M., at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama, with Chairman Barney L. Shull presiding. The following members were present: Mr. Charlie Gravat, Mrs. Stephanie Montgomery, Mrs. Jean Smith and Mr. David Staple- ton. Also present were Programs Director Ed Nelson and Facilities Director Phil Rutherford. Guests present: Councilman Billy D. Wiggins and Young Street Director's Al Bosby and Leslie Perdue. The minutes of the November 10, 1976 meeting were read and approved as recorded. Chairman Shull reported on his meeting with the School Board regarding the location of a field for the Girl's Softball Program. Chairman Shull said that the site would be the softball field across from the Elementary School, and that the field would be reorganized for the Girl's Softball Program. Chairman Shull stated that the Board would have to give final authoriza- tion in order to proceed with the project. Jean Smith moved, seconded by David Stapleton for the Recreation Board to set up a field for the Girl's Softball Program , pending a quote from Facilities Director Phil Ruther- ford on the cost involved. Motion carried. Facilities Director Phil Rutherford presented bills from the City's Electrical Department for materials used at the new football stadium and the new ball park on Volanta Avenue, in the amount of $ 7,510.60. David Stapleton moved, seconded by Charlie Gravat to pay the bills as presented. Motion carried. Charlie Gravat moved, seconded by Jean Smith, that the Recreation Board pay the City of Fairhope for light bulbs, pur- chased in 1975. Motion carried. Stephanie Montgomery gave a report on her findings on the charge for out of town people using the facilities at the Fair - hope beach. Chairman Shull gave the following guidelines for coming up with recommendations to present to the City Council: 1. Means and Methods. 2. Term of period. 3. Charge to non-residents. 4. Daily operating time. 5. Collection period. L Fairhope Park and Recreation Board Page 2 Minutes for meeting December 8, 1976 Chairman Shull informed Board members that he would have the quotes and plans at the January meeting for installing kitchen facilities at the Morphy Avenue Recreation Center. Facilities Director Phil Rutherford gave a report on various maintainence items. Mr. Rutherford said that he had installed the new toilet seats at the Young Street Center, constructed and painted two (2) picnic tables for the Center, and was working on the installation of light switch inside of the Young Street Center building. David Stapleton moved, seconded by Stephanie Montgomery to reimburse the men in the Electric Department in the form of a bonus as follows: Aaron Norris $ 50.00 Ira Akins 25.00 Ralph Keller 25.00 Ken Malone 25.00 Bob Morgan 25.00 Leslie Allison 25.00 There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
