HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-22-1996 Special MeetingThe Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met in a special meeting on Friday, November 22, 1996 at 8:00 AM. Present: Chairman Sue Mason; members Andy Huggins, Bill Payne Robert Coiling, Jeanette Puckett(Mike Baugh was contacted by telephone) Betty Rivenbark, Secretary The board met to day to consider a proposal from a local farmer, Floyd Childress, who had met with Sue Mason and offered to farm the land down at the southern end of the runway some 40-50 acres. Sue reported on her meeting with him and said when they toured the land the grass was very overgrown, there is an old dilapidated building there now and a concrete silo and the land goes up and down in ruts. That he proposes to clear it, plant alternating crops and keep the airport mowed for us. In return we will not charge him rent for 2 years. Discussion led to board considering offering this property to him for 3 years with options. All thought we would benefit from this arrangement as well as he would. Jeanette said we needed to get something in writing, a lease, and then we would have to bring it to the City Council. Andy said if he abides by the agreement it would be an excellent use of the land. Andy said that we need to make it clear that if we need to pull out a piece for some other tenant that the agreement would still stand. Sue said he understands that. The terms to be after 3 -yrs, have 4-5year negotiating segments. This was put in the form of a motion by Bill Payne, seconded by Jeanette Puckett and unanimously carried. Sue to get with Tut on this. (Motion amended to authorize Sue to get with City Atty on this.) Sue mentioned that she has already talked with Barge Waggoner about getting us something going on land acquistion request to FAA. As this will be next step and funding might become available There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
