HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-21-1976 Regular MeetingTHE FAIRHOPE PARK AND RECREATION BOARD Minutes for Meeting January 21, 1976 The Fairhope Park and Recreation Board met in regular session on Wednesday, January 21, 1976 at 7:30 P.M., at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama , with Chairman Barney L. Shull presiding. The following members were present: Mr. Jack Stipes, Mr. Charlie Gravat and Mrs. Jean Smith. Member David Stapleton was absent from the meeting. Facilities Director Cleve Crow , Programs Director John Lee, and Tennis Director Howard Threlkeld were also present at the meeting. The minutes of the December 17, 1975 meeting were ap- proved as recorded. The bills for the month were gone over. Member Jack Stipes moved to pay all bills. Member Jean Smith seconded the motion. Motion Carried. The Financial Statements for the month were looked over. Chairman Barney Shull gave a report from the Chair on the progress of the $ 300,000.00 loan from the Farmers Home Admin- istration, for recreational facilities improvements. Chair- man Shull urged Recreation Board members to work closer together in the coming months since many things would have to be done to start the construction program. Tennis Director Howard Threlkeld gave a brief report on activities at the tennis courts. Mr. Threlkeld asked that three mud holes at the tennis courts be filled in as cars were getting stuck in the mud holes. Mr. Threlkeld also asked for money to build a backstop . Member Charlie Gravat moved for an allowance of up to $ 100.00 for the purpose of buil- ding a backstop at the tennis courts . Member Jean Smith seconded the motion. Motion Carried. Jean Smith gave a brief report on the Soccer Meeting which she attended, and stated that everything was well handled. Programs Director Coach John Lee told Board members about the progress he was making in building Soccer Goals. Member Jack Stipes moved for an appropriation of up to $ 350.00 maximum for the soccer program which will include the constructing of the goals, and balls which needed to be purchased for each team. Mr. Charlie Gravat seconded the motion. Motion Carried. Mr. Jack Stipes asked that Young Street Recreation Director John Robinson be notified to appear at the February 18, 1976 meeting of the Fairhope Recreation Bard.
