HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-19-1975 Regular Meetingr� A r ti THE FAIRHOPE PARK AND RECREATION BOARD The Fairhope Park and Recreation Board met in regular session on Wednesday, November 19, 1975 at 7:30 P.M. at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama with Chairman Barney L. Shull presiding. The following members were present: Mr. David Stapleton, Mr. Charlie Gravat, Mrs. Jean Smith. Mr. Jack Stipes was absent from the meeting. Also present were Facilities Director Cleve Crow and Programs Director Coach John Lee. Guests present : Mr. Howard Thrdlkeld, Tennis Director. The minutes of the October 15,1975 meeting were approved as recorded. The bills for the month were gone over. Member Charlie Gravat moved to pay all bills as the money becomes available. Jean Smith seconded the motion. Motion carried. The Cash -Flow and Operating statements for the first month of the 1976 Fiscal year were looked over. Tennis Director Howard Threlkeld gave a report on the various activities and maintainence items for the tennis courts. Mr. Threlkeld said that the nets he had purchased had been received and installed. Mr. Threlkeld requested a gate on the back fence of the tennis courts, and said that he would put a padlock on the gate, and it would be maintained under controlled access. The Board told Mr. Threlkeld that they would consider the gate. Mr. Threlkeld said that he had given up on the idea of screens being put up on Greeno Road clue to the wind factor. The idea of installing a Coke Machine at the tennis courts was discussed. The Coke distributor said that before one could be considered he would have to be sure that there would be security measures taken. Chairman Shull said that if Mr. Threlkeld could come up with a foolproof security measure, it would be alright to install a coke machine at the tennis courts. The possibility of getting an electric heater for Mr. Threlkeld's office at the tennis courts was discussed. The Board asked Facilities Director Clue. Crov rtm look' around f6i can elcrdhric heater . Mr. Threlkeld asked for lights between courts two and three. Chairman Shull asked Mr. Threlkeld to bring in the information on the lights so that they can be installed between courts two"and three. Programs Director Coach John Lee gave a brief report on the activities of the various programs. Coach Lee said that he had finished up the Tiny -Mite program and was in the process of getting the equipment returned. Facilities Director Cleve Crow gave a report on the various projects for maintainence which were in progress. Mr. Crow said that he would have to go out for sealed bids on black topping as the project will be over $ 500.00. k�- -2- This being the date set for opening bids on the roofing at the Fairhope Municipal Pool the following bids were received: William Olsen----------------------- $ 2,800.00 Vernon Comalander------------------- 1,840.00 without shingles 1,700.00 with shingles Member Charlie Gravat moved to accept the low bid, that being Vernon Comalander providing it meets the specifications required, after study of bid by Facilities Director Cleve Crow. David Stapleton seconded the motion. Motion carried. Member David Stapleton moved to authorize Facilities Director Cleve Crow to go ahead with the roofing once the specifications of the bids have been studied and found complete. Mr. Charlie Gravat seconded the motion. Motion carried. Cleve Crow recommended that the swimming pool be professionally sand blasted in order to clean it, and that a special paint be used so that further sandblasting will not be necessary. The Board authorized Mr. Crow to go ahead and get the prices on sandblasting the pool. Chairman Shull said that the Recreation Board members would meet with the Fairhope City Council on December 15, 1975 in order to discuss the Capital Improvements program for the Recreation Department. The salary of Programs Director Coach John Lee was discussed. Member Charlie Gravat moved to pay compensation to Coach Lee for the months of September, 1975 thru December, 1975 in the amount of $ 600.00, with Coach Lee's salary to be reviewed again at the next regular meeting of the Recreation Board. David Stapleton seconded the motion. Motion carried. There being no further business to come before the Recreation Board the meeting was adjourned.
