HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-15-1975 Regular Meeting-�►' f' Fairhope Park and Recreation Board } The Fairhope Park and Recreation Board met in regular session wednesday, January 15, 1975 at 7:30 p.m. at the City Administration with the following members present: Chairman, Barney Shull; Members: Dr. Johnson, Jack Stipes, and Director Coach W.C. Majors. Members absent: Mr. David Stapleton and Mr. C. Gravat Guests in attendance were: Ms. Susan Stewart, Dr. Mullins and Mr. Howard Threlkheld. Motion was made seconded and carried to approve minutes of the October meeting. No meetings were held in November or December. Ms. Susan Stewart representing Faulkner State Jr. College requested that a facility be provided in Fairhope for a, Physical Fitness Program and also asked for $ 250.00 for the purchase of half of the equipment necessary for the program. Ms. Stewart stated that the program would begin after the fifteenth of March and that she would take care of all public relations for the program. Dr. Mullins offered his support of this program and stated that it would be a good thing for the City of Fairhope. Dr. Mullins explained that the program would be good for cardiac patients by offering Cardio- Vascular and Cardio- Respiratory exercise. Jack Stipes moved that half of the equipment be provided up to the amount of $ 250.00 , and that facilities be provided by the Recreation Board, seconded by Dr. Johnson the motion was carried. Mr. Threlkheld discussed the resurfacing of the tennis courts stating that they werein " Bad Shape". He mentioned that almost all of the paint needed to repaint the courts was gone. Jack Stipes moved to authorize the repainting of the courts, and that additional help be provided to Mr. Threlkheld to assist in the project.. The motion was seconded by Dr. Johnson, motion carried. Mr. Threlkheld also requested a gate in the back of the courts so that balls would not be so hard to catch. Coach Majors said that he would call for bids at Fence Companies in order to purchase said gate. Also brought up by Mr. Threlkheld was the building of a backboard for better ball return, and the cutting down of a pine tree which cluttered the courts with pine needles and sap. Mr. Threlkheld brought to the Board's attention that the Annual Tourmament would be held in July of this year. FAIRHOPE PARK A, RECREATION BOAiW w mills for the month were guar over and approved. The hoard members reviewed the recommendations of the auditors, Parker and White. Tne recommendation was that the Recreation Board be given the authority to have control over all funds appropriated to it, includLag Lhe signing of all recreaLion rund .iie,;ks. Tl.is would give the Recreation Board direct control over all expenditures as well, and a seperate ledger would be established for the Recreation Funds books where previously it was consolidated with the General Fund Jack Stipes moved that the Recreation Fund be set up similar to the Library Board. That the Recreation Fund and The Recreation Phase II fund would have seperate purchase orders . That Authority be given to Director Coach W.C. Majors to sign all checks and purchase orders and that the Recreation Board Secretary, Lynn Adams would co-sign the checks.. That the eation Fund be set up in a seperate ledger along with Recreation phase II. This motion was seconded by Dr. Johnson. Motion Carried. Also brought to the members attention by Coach W.C. Majors was that letters be written to Thoss Sporting Goods and Brannon Sporting Goods, informing them that the Recreation Board will not be responsible for any items purchased by the Babe Ruth Little League unless on a purchase order from either Recreation Fund or Recreation Phase U . Also Brought up by Coach Majors was the allocation of $ 1600.00 out of the Recreation Fund budget fore—Bab�e-Ruth Little League. There being no further business to come before the Board, upon motion, seconded and passed , meeting adjourned.
