HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-13-1996 Regular MeetingThe Airport Board of the City of Fairhope, Alabama met Monday, ,May 13, 1996 at 8:00 AM at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street Present: Chairman Sue Mason, members Robert Coiling, Mike Baugh, Jeanette Puckett and Bill Payne The minutes of the April 8 meeting were approved as written. Sue reported that the FAA had contacted us about the possibility of having some extra funds that could be used for cost overrun on the project we recently completed. She was asked how much and replied about 6% could be what we received, some $6-7,000. That we just finished paying off Barge, Waggoner. Also, that we filed liquidated damages against George Hardee Const. Co. Bill mentioned that there were 2 big washouts out there now. Sue mentioned that after the 10" rain it might have washed any grass that was there away, that she would try and get Phil to go out and check it but we do have a guarantee on the grass if it has not taken and Hardee will have to replace it. She told of the GPS meeting with Volkert and that we have sent them a disc of the airport layout plan as requested. She had nothing to report on Teledyne, they have not been in contact with us about anything other than asking us to come repair leaks in the ceilings of the hangars which we have repeatedly tried to do. Buzz asked what we had found out regarding monthly meetings and it was reported that there is no state law governing it. Further discussion led to a motion being made that we meet every other month, commencing with July and if we need a special meeting it can be called. Mike Baugh seconded and motion carried unanimously. Mike Baugh asked at this time if we had any specific plans to stop the obvious erosion at the airport. Sue said the only recourse we had was on the Hardee grass guarantee. That she would talk to Phil, that she had mentioned it and was told it is on the list of things that the City has planned to do. Mike also mentioned that the T-hangars needed painting. Mike asked what the city's stand was on the proposed regional airport. Sue said she thinks that they are in our air range and if so they probably won't be allowed to build it, further that she had talked to the mayor and he does not seem concerned that this will be a problem for Fairhope. It was decided that the board wished it stated that the considered proposal about the concept of a regional airport was not something for Fairhope at this time. Sue reported that she learned that Alabama law does offer us some protection in development of land around the airport and that she had talked to Bob Lunsford about this and he is working with the county on monitoring zoning in and around the airport especially in the cone area(taking off and landing) in case we have to acquire land around the airport in the future. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
