FAIRHOPE PARK AND RECREATION BOARD The Fairhope Park and Recreation Board met in regular session Wednesday, June 14, 1972 at 7:30 P.M., at the City Administra- tjon building in Fairhope, Alabama. Present: Chairman Shull, members Dr. Johnson, Leslie Allen, W. C. Majors. Absent: Davis Stapleton. Motion made, seconded and carried to approve minutes of last regular meeting. Dr. Johnson moved to approve bills for payment with exception of Valta Corporation in the amount of $495.85, as this should be capital improvement. Motion seconded byMr. Allen, carried. New tennis courts at Greeno Park discussed. Council approved job. Courts will be dedicated on the 24 of June at 2:00 P.M. Exhibition games will be played by professional tennis players. Tennis lessons will be scheduled at a later date. For further informatior(oncerning tennis call Tim Reynolds at 928-7658 or Eddie Nelson at 928-7815. Mr. Shull discussed Young Street Recreation Program, stating that proper lighting at ball park woijld be next major project in over-all recreation program. Babe Ruth Concession stand at Greeno Park has purchased a pop- corn machine which will be used throughout recreation program. Motion by Mr. Allen, seconded by Dr. Johnson to pay $305.00 to Mobile Popcorn Co., Inc. Motion carried unanimously. There being no further business to come before the Board, meeting adjourned. Each month during - the winter we sponsored a, "One maeshow of the work of our artist members with a reception on the second Saturday of each month.The shows were well received and the receptions well attended..We are presently sponsprkng a "Picture Of The Month" show im which each artist member shows one picture anti the members and guests vote on their aholce.A certificate of award will be given for the picture receiving the most v otes, with a reception for the artist.This program has received such favorable comment and will be repeated with another popular picture show in Oatober.and, the one man shows beginning in November and 4ontinueing through the winter season.Imx August we took a trip with 45 people by bus to Gautier Mississippi and from there we went by paddlewheel excursion boat down the Singing river through Pascagoula harbor where the highlight of the trip was a good view of the new Litton Industries shipyard.
