HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-12-1972 Regular MeetingTHE FAIRHOPE PARK AND RECREATION BOARD The Fairhope Park and Recreation Board met in regular ses- sion Wednesday, April 12, 1972 at 7:30 P.M. at the City Admin- istration Building in Fairhope with the following present: Chairman B. L. Shull, members: W. C. Majors and Dr. R. H. Johnson. Absent: Members David Stapelton and Leslie Allen. Guests: Mrs. Martha Hill, Mrs. Pat Quinn and Peter Quinn. Johnn Robinson, representing Young Street Recreation. minutes of last meeting, Dr. Johnson -moved to approve/ ft=cpjq=xit, Mr. Majors seconded, motion carried. Dr. Johnson moved to approve bills for payment. Mr. Majors seconded, motion carried. Mrs. Hill acting as spoksman for a group of people who are interested in bicycle, walking and horse trails; presenting a map with preferred areas. She requested .that the Board recommend to the Planning and Zoning Commission as well as the City Council, widening of certain sidewalks and building new ones along with laying out trails for above. Mr. Shull stated that he would approach the City Council with request of Mrs. Hill. Mr. Majors moved to support movement to promote bicycle, horse and walking trails. Dr. Johnson seconded, motion car- ried. Secretary was requested to write letter to former Board member, Mr. Gordon K. Burton for his years of support, work and interest in the Recreation Program. John Robinson, representing Young Street Recreation was heard. His requests are as follows: 1. Ball park lights repaired and some replaced. 2. Grading of ball park. 3. Basketball goals. 14.. Black top around pool. CHe also stated that family membership for pool would be $15.00 for the season, and individual swimmers $.25. Mr. Majors moved to allow $80.00 to Ricky Penry for work on ball parks. Dr. Johnson seconded, motionocarr.ied unanimously. Mr. Schull recommended to set up a discretionary fund for re- payment of expenses incurred and paid for by Board members and hired help, said fund to be determined at a later date. Motion by Mr. Shull to adopt summer program budged as presented, Dr. Johnson seconded, motion carried unanimously.
