HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-15-1971 Regular MeetingFAIRHOPE PARK AND RECREATION BOARD The Fairhope Park and Recreation Board met Wednesday, December 15, 1971 at 7:30 P.m., at the City Hall in Fairhope, Alabama with the following present: Chairman B. L. Shull, members: David Stapleton, Dr. R. H.. Johnson, Mr. Gordon Burton, Mr. W. C. majors. Guests: Mr. Dick Preisgen and Mr. Don Smith. Motion by Mr. Burton seconded by Mr. Stapleton to approve minutes of last regular meeting. motion carried. Motion by Mr. Burton to approve bills for payment, seconded by Dr. Johnson, carried unanimously. Mr. Dick Preisgen presented Board with an outline of the func- tioning of the football program for the 1971 season, which re- port was read to the Board. Included in summary was several sug- gestions which have been tabled for further consideration before Board takes action. Mr. Presigen was commended by the Board for an excellent job. It was suggested that a means of stronger control be incorporated in the football program, which includes staff credentials, two assistants, one business agent and team mothers, also an approved chaching staff. Fees for boys be raised to $5.00 which includes equipment. multi -families participating in program to be on a graduated scale, down to lesser fees. No action taken at this meeting. The Board commended Mr. Don Smith and Mr. Ray Evers for a fine job in the football program. Mr. Eddie Nelson, who was respon- sible for the officiating was also commended. motdon by Dr. Johnson to acquire the services of City Attorney in the collecting of monies owed Board by Little League, which debt represents equipment purchased with a loan from the Board. Mr. Stapleton seconded motion. Upon being put to a vote, the following was recorded. Yea: Dr. Johnson, Stapleton, majors, and Burton. Nay: None. motion carried unanimously. The Secretary was instructed to write the Board of Directors of the Organic School of Education requesting use of gymnasium for basketball practice. Bids on tennis courts to be received and opened January 10, 1972 after 2:30 P.m., which bids will then be presented to City Council for their approval. Motion by Dr. Johnson, seconded by Mr. majors that meeting ad= journ. motion carried. Next regular meeting January 12, 1972 at 7:30 P. m. , City Hall. Eula Smith, Secretary December 17, 1971 Board of Directors Organic School of Education 450 Fairhope Avenue Fairhope, Alabama Attention: Mr. Sam Dyson Gentlemen: Request is hereby made for the use of the Organic School of Education Gymnasium for basketball practice which is sponsored by the Fairhope Recreation Board. As the gym at the Fairhope High School is in constant usep we find that practice is very limited. Not only will the youth of public school will benefit but the youth of Organic who take an active part in this re- creation program will benefit. As in the past# your kind consideration will be greatly appreciated.
