The 1970-71 winter season began with the Rock and Gem Show Oct.30- 31 and Nov,.lst.The first day of the show was disappointing due to fact that the school children who usually make up the bulk -,of the attendance on that day, were not allowed to come. However Saturday and Sunday crowds were exceptionally good and the overall attendance and interest was excellent. All dealer space was sold and everyone asked to come back for the next show. Immediately following we held our membership meeting on Tuesday November 3rd.signing 88 memberships that day.The member- ship continued to grow at each meeting and reached a total of- 1 soon after the first of the year. The program for the year followed the usual schedule with pot luck suppers on the first and third Thursdays of each month, weekly socials each Tuesday afternoon, and ceramics and water color classes each Wednesday and Friday.Attendance at the pot luck suppers averaged 120 and the Tuesday socials 70. We took part in the Arts and Crafts festival and shared the hall with 5 other craftsmen. Our participation in this years Arts and @rafts festival was the most satisfactory that we have experienced. The large crowds of visitors enjoyed the comfort of our hall and were very pleased with our facilities. We had a good display and sale of Water Color Art,Ceramics and handcraft items all done by our members, and also a white elephant "Country Store" which sold out almost completely. The Summer season began May llth.and the membership this summer is considerably above that of previous'_years.At the present time the membership is 67.Attendance at our socials and pot luck suppers as1n'c`reased accordingly. We have received memorial gifts from the family of Mr.Grabham and from friends of Laura Newell. We are planning a memorial scroll to honor these and other members who have passed away. Also the club was presented a permanently installed motion picture screen by Mr.and Mrs Ed Chase who are ardent members. Our members are enthusiastically working -towards the purchase of a sound projector and any money received from the i ems a o the club are earmarked for this project. It is planned to have in the near future a reception to welcome new permanent residents in our area,as many have built or bought homes recently. Many of these have expressed their appreciation of the clubs purpose and activities. During the year Mrs Lindsay was twice hospitalized for major surgery. With the help of willing helpers the work went on without interruption.Mrs Rose Waterson managed the pot lucks and Tuesday socials while Mrs Lou Hammond and others carried on the handcraft work in the homes of various members. q)-o' SUMMEA IEA6UES _ T F E-WON1S )?21L IIHES fao"C eAm s F I EL 0,,3 4 a mullr4vs M F-tq T buoctE MNT(Zot_ '15171A, F IF D) OLIE UrO (Z - C i.
