The Fairhope Park and Recreation Board met Wednesday may 129
1971 at 7:30 P.M., at the City Hall in Fairhopq, Alabama.
Present: Chairman B. L. Shull, members: Dr. R. H. Johnson,
Mr. Gordon Burton. Directors: Perry Lowery and Eddie Nelson.
Members W. C. majors and David Stapleton being absent.
Guests: Mr. Preisgen (Dick Scott), Mr. Mortimer. Represent-
ing Young Street park was John Robinson, John Hodges and Robert
Baker:
Mr. Burton moved to approve minutes of last regular meeting.
Dr. Johnson seconded, Motion carried.
Motion by Mr. Burton, seconded by Dr. Johnson to pay bills.
Motion carried.
Re -organization of Recreation Board was discussed. Mr. W. C.
Majors has been appointed to the board by the City Council to
replace expired term of Mr. Chatwood.
The Board officially acknowledged resignation of W. C. Majors
as Director and expressed their appreciation for the very fine
job he had accomplished. Mr. Majors extends his appreciation
of help and co-operation of the Board, also extends his offer
of help to any of the Directors.
Eddie Nelson reported that Tennis Program is underway, there
being six groups ages 9-15 are registered. Mr. H. C. Mullins
met with one group Monday May loth. Any interested persons
are requested to call Mrs. Mullins or leave their name at City
Hall.
Mr. Burton discussed need for lights at the tennis court which
adjoins the Elementary School grounds.
Representatives from Young Street was recognized by the Board,
Mr. Robinson being spokesman. Their requests are as follows:
1. Lighting of ball park.
2. 'Parking area repaired and paved...
3. Black top around pool area.
4. Bath houses completed.
Mr. Hobbs stated that he was acting as pool manager along with
being life guard. His need for efficient help was discussed.
John Robinson, over-all director of park requested the power
to fire any employee who doesn't work or do the job assigned
him.
Director Lowery was requested to look into the over-all needs
at Young Street Park and see that the needs are fulfilled if
requests are immediately needed.
Mr. Andy Mortimer has been hired by the Recreation Board to
develope park area grassing and/also to supervise and give
golf lessons when the program can be set-up.
Mr. Eddie Nelson will again act as Greeno Pool Manager and
stated that pool will open May 28th. Registration will be
Monday May 31st between 8:00 A.M., and 12:00 Noon. Family
membership will remain $30.00 for the season and tickets may
be purchased either at the pool site or at CityHall.
Changing pool hours was discussed, but no action was taken.
Girls softball will be on Wednesday and Fkiday Nights and
Men's will be Monday and Thursday nights.
School of Organic Education Board has allowed space for the
summer Arts and Crafts Program.
Mr. Burton moved to adjourn, seconded by Dr. Johnson. Carried.
Next regular meeting will be Wednesday., June 99 1971 at 7:30 P.M.

Let me begin by saying you have done an out-
standing job for the City of Fairhope in all phases of
Recreation. You have been wise in your decisions and have
been behind me in all of mine, right or wrong, for this

With the many demands of school today, I feel
that I cannot possibly give the Recreation Department
my best. With regret, I feel that I must resign.
The man you select I will work with, teach all
phases of the program, method of purchasing and how to
purchase, if you so desire.
Thank you again for the fine cooperation and
confidence you have shown me.
