The Fairhope Park and Recreation Board met Wednesday, march 13,
1968 at 7;30 p.m., at City Hall, with the following present:
Chairman Shull, members Burton, Stipes, Johnson and Chatwood.
Directors: majors and Lowery.
Guestss mr. Russell Harper, Director of District 6, Babe Ruth

Mr. Burton moved to approve minutes of previous regular meeting.
Dr. Johnson seconded, motion carried.
Mr. Burton moved to approve bills with exception of Coca-Cola
Bottling Company, and Smith, Dukes and Buckalew. Dr. Johnson
seconded, motion carried.
Mr. Preston introduced Mr. Harper, stating that his purpose for
attending meeting was to explain State Babe Ruth Tournament. Mr.
Harper then took the floor: "For the past two years Huntsville,
Alabama has been host to Babe Ruth Tournament. Fairhope hale an
ideal park system and good co-operation within the league. Some
ninety-six (96) boys and xixxk sixteen to eighteen (16-18)
coaches and managers would have to be accommodated. Foster homes
for the players and hotel and motel arragments made for coaches
and managers. Tournament to run from July 22nd to July 27th. As
some teams are eliminated they usually leave the following day.
Tournament could run Monday through Saturday, this being a double
elimination tournament. Trophies are presented by State League.
The 'Park and Recreation Board have given their vote of confidence
in supporting program and will keep in touch with State Director;
will offer a bid at State meeting March 23rd.
Mr. Burton moved to back Fairhope Babe Ruth League in bid for
State Tournament. Mr. Stipes seconded, motion carried.
Mr. Valentim reported on sponsors for Babe Ruth League, and those
potential sponsors.
Mr. Nelson requested permission for use of a ball park for girls
softball team. Recreation Board agreed unanimously that little
field at City Park would be available for Saturday night games.
Mr. Burton moved to make necessary additions to snack bar at ball
park, job not to exceed $225.00. Dr. Johnson seconded, motion
carried.
Golf course discussed. Mr. Shull reported that he has list of
five hundred eighty (580) interested persons and that five sites
are offered.
Motion by Mr. Chatwood that results of golf course survey and bids
on sites as completed by Recreation Board be presented to City
Council for their consideration.. Mr. Burton seconded, motion car-
ried.
Mr. Stipes moved to adjourn, Mr. Burton seconded, motion carried.
Next regular meeting April 10, 1968.
