The Fairhope Park and Recreation Board met Wednesday, August 9,
1967 at 7:30 p.m., at City Hall, with the following present:
Chairman Shull, members Stipes, Burton, Johnson and Chatwood.
Also present were Directors majors and Lowery and City Super-
intendent, Mr. Kirk.
In the absence of Mrs. Smith, Coach majors acted as secretary.
Mr. Burton moved that minutes of previous meeting be approved.
Motion seconded by Dr. Johnson, passed.
Mr. Chatwood moved bills be paid with the exception of City of
Fairhope bill (electric service to swimming pool), in the amount
of $105.44. Mr. Burton seconded, motion carried.
Coach Majors reported on recreation program. It was decided
that operation of Young Street Recreation Center would be re-
duced to week -ends only during the winter season.
Mr. Kirk reported on different phases of building in recreation
areas, rest -rooms at pool are near completion as are picnic
facilities on beach.
At this time, representatives from the Deep Sobth Council of
Girl Scouts, Mrs. James Nix, President; Mrs. M. F . Porterfield
Executive Director; Mrs. Porter Scott, Associated Chairman and
two senior scouts were heard. They gave a run-down of activi-
ties and expressed their need for financial assistance in order
to continue operation in this area, stating that any individual
or organizational aid would be greatly appreciated. If help
isn't forthcoming through either of these mediums there is a pos-
sibility that girl scouting will have to be discontinued in
Fairhope.
There being no further business, upon motion by Mr. Stipes, seconei
by Dr. Johnston, meeting adjourned.
