September 14, 1966

Fairhope, Alabama
Members present: Chairman Schull, members Johnson, Burton, Stipe ,
Chatwood. City Superintendent Mr. Kirk, Coaches majors and Lower .
Absent: None
Motion by Mr. Burton, seconded by Dr. Johnson that Eula Smith be
appointed as secretary with a salary of $10.00 per meeting.
Motion carried unanimously.
Minutes pf previous meeting approved with the following exception
Mr. Stipes moved, Dr. Johnson seconded that motion by Mr. Burton,
seconded by Dr. Johnson which reads as follows:
"That the City be requested to transfer
the $15,000.00 approved previously to
the Recreation Board Account, and that
the City Clerk be authorized to take
$10,000.00 of this and deposit in The
Savings and Loan."
Be changed to read:
Transfer the $5,000.00 previously ap-
proved, to Recreation Board Account
at the First National Bank of Fairhope.
Motion carried unanimously.
Mrs. G. R. Wood, Jr., gave a summary of Creative Arts program,
reporting that she had twenty adult vomuntsers, had spent
$14.75 for young adults and $234,72 for elementary.
Mr. Chatwood moved Board reimburse Mrs. Wood $9.75 which repre-
sents membership to the Mobile Public Library (Great Books
Program), which bill was assumed by Mrs. Wood. Dr. Johnson
seconded. Motion carried.
The Board expressed their thanks to Mrs. Wood and recommended
that the Month of February be adopted for Creative Arts future
planning.
Mrs. Welker, and Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey gave a summary of activiti
expenses, and future plans for tourist recreation, at which time
Mrs. Welker reported that $3,756.47 has been spent, of which
$1,281.46 was raised through profit making activities. An in-
ventory of assets was requested by the Board and is to be pre-
sented at next regular meeting.
Mr. Stipes moved Board set up $2,000.00 budget for Tourist
Recreation Program. Dr. Johnson seconded motion. Upon being
put to a vote, the following vote was recorded: Dr. Johnson,
Mr. Chatwood, Mr. Stipes voting aye, Mr. Burton voting nay. Mr.
Schull abstaining. Motion carried.
Motion by Mr. Burton, seconded by Dr. Johnson that all bills be
paid. Motion carried.
Mr. Kirk reported on progress and condition of new ball park.
The secretary was instructed to wirte letters to the following
expressing board's appreciation for a job well done: Mr. Kirk
and city employees, Volunteer Fire Department and to Mr. Lipscomb
for his co-operation.
Board is to request the City of Fairhope police Department to
check ball parks nightly, to turn off lights when there are no
activities.
Upon motion by Dr. Johnson, seconded by Mr. Chatwood and carried,
meeting adjourned.

REPORT OF DIRECTOR OF RECREATION
ADULT & TOURIST
The Club had it's opening meeting Nov. 2, at which time member-
ships were paid for the coming season. Refreshments were served
to approximately 85 guest.
Craft Classes begun on Wednesday Nov. 3 and continued through the
season. Various crafts were taught such as, copper tooling, paint-
ing on glass, mosaic tile, me -cal engraving and etching, block print-
ing and collage and tissue paper pictures.
There were 25 Craft classes with an average attendance of 20. Also
20 water color workshop classes with an attendance of 15. There were
25 Ceramic classes with an average attendance of 12, 16 Flower Arrange-
ment classes with an average attendance of 15. The Instructor of this
class was paid out of a special fund paid in by those participating in
the class.
This season we served !_2 Socials and 15 Pot Luck Suppers. The after-
noon socials had an average of Lr8 in attendance and the Pot Luck
suppers an average of 100 in attendance.
There were also trips, lectures and film programs arranged from time
to time during the season.
We also had an Exhibit at the Greater Gulf States Fair and won third
place and a Medal for our efforts.
Money other than what was supplied by the Recreation Board and our
dues were acquired by the sale of food at the Rock and Gem Show we
sponsored in November, a Gumbo Supper served to the public, from
food served during the Arts and Crafts Show and from articles made
and donated by the members of the Club for sale.
Those attending the craft classes bought and paid for the supplies
they used and the Club furnished the equipment for the members use.
We are preparing an exhibit for the Fair this year and also will have
our second Rock and Gem Show in November.
We have bought 5 more banquet tables and also 5 new card tables. We
have had China Service for 50 already donated and we are trying to
acquire silverware at present. We hope to have table service to
serve at least a hundred in the near future.

You will notice this budget covers a period of seven months at the
end of which time we.will report and ask your aid in planning our
Summer Program.
We operated on y� ye round basis this year with only the Director
on the payroll, 4ear'c" ar'r`ied on with our program and also taught
