HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-11-1966 Regular MeetingRECREATION BOARD WEDNESDAY, MAY 11, 1966 CITY HALL 7:30 P.M. Chairman and all members present. Vieitors: Mr. Belew, Valentim, Lowery, Vasco, Mrs. Woods, Prof. Boykin, Matt Perryman. Motion by Mr.'Burton, seconded by Dr. Johnson that minutes of previous meeting be approved as recorded. Motion carried. Mr. Belew and Mr. Valentim presented Board a check in the amount of $850.009 from the Little League and invited members to attend opening day ceremonies on Saturday, May 14, 1966. Jack Vasco requested aid from Board in lighting and clearing the outskirt of girl's softball field. Mrs. Anna Wood explained the Great Books Program and how it could be part of the Creative Art Program. Motion by Mr. Burton, seconded by Dr. Johnson that Mrs. Anna Wood be employed ae Director of Combined Creative Arts and Great Books Program for the 1966 summer season. Motion carried. Professor Boykin announced that the Young Street Building was non''available for recreational use. Following discussion, it was agreed that members of the board would meet with Chairman of Young Street Recreation Committee at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14th to examine building and decideal on summer program. Chairman announced that all bids necessary for completion of baseball fields are expected within week. Motion by Mr. Burton, seconded by Dr. Johnson that Mr. Lipscomb be written letter of appreciation for his cooperation with the Recreation Board. Motion carried. Coach Majors reported on progress of summer programs. Petition requesting tennis courts at Stimpson Field received and placed on file. There being no further business, meeting adjourned. Eloise T.
