Members present: Chairman Shull, Members J. A. Stipes, Dr. R. H.
Johnson, Mr, D. T. Chatwood and Mr. Gordon K.
Burton.
Absent: None,
Guests: Coach W. C. Majors and Mr. Bank Kerns.
There being no corrections to the minutes Dr. Johnson moved,
Mr. Chatwood seconded that they be approved. Motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS:
Mr. Stipes reported that the Colored Community had asked for
a 2 week extension before reporting to the Board in the matter of
their Summer Recreation Program. Mr. Stipes agreed to look further
into the possibility of implementing this area.
Mr. Shull stated that Coach W. C. Majors, newly appointed
Director of the Summer Program, has already begun preliminary plans
for the Program - his salary to begin May 1.
Chairman Shull reported that preparatory tests are being made
at the pool and prints for building restrooms and other necessary
facilities are being finalized.
The Board agreed that the City Council should attend the
next regular meeting of the Board on April 14th so that overall
plans for City Recreation for the neat 4 or 5 years may be discussed.
The Chairman noted that the City Council at their meeting on
March 22 had approved insurance coverage for Stimpson Field. The
Board recommended that the City Council consider including insurance
coverage for all the playground area, also the Colored ballpark.
A letter from Huffman Insurance Company in regard to City
liability - Swimming Pool Area was read and forwarded to the City
Council for their consideration with a recommendation from the
Board that coverage be obtained for this area.
Mr. Shull told of his plans to meet with Mr. MoGowin, Superin-
tendent of Muoation, in regard to obtaining use of the band
building on Morphy Avenue for the Recreation Program,
NEW BUSINESS:
Mr. Stipes moved that the bill from Meyercord Company for
oisarette stamps in the amount of $ 935.00 be approved and reoom-
mended to the City Council for payment. Dr. Johnson seconded.
Motion carried.
Mr. Stipes reported that Mr. John Ferguson, editor of the
Fa��irhopDe Courier, had agreed to publish the minutes of the Recreation
Boar�ii meetings free of charge.
A report was made by Mr. Stipes on the progress of improve-
ments to the ballfields and the tennis courts.
Coach W. C. Majors discussed the following items with the
Board:
1. Duties of the lifeguard
2. Duties of the Pool Manager
3. General rules for swimmers

It was agreed that a painted sign should be erected at the pool
site with rules for swimmers olearly noted.
The Chairman presented a proposed organizational
ohart of the
overall functions of the Reoreation Board. After muoh discussion,
the Chairman made the following 5 divisions and appointments:

Mr. Stipes reported that bids for
Connie Mack
and Babe Ruth equipment.
The possibility of obtaining sponsors for the Babe Ruth and
Connie Maok teams was disoussed.
It was duly moved and seoonded that meeting
adjourn.
