i"embers present: Mr. Burton, Nx. Chatwood, Dr. Johnson and Nr.
Stipes.
Absent: Iir. Shull.
Guests: Nx. Sarge Turner, Dr. Stine, Frances Olivier, and four
representatives from the Colored Community.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read.
Dr. Johnson requested that the following word addition be made:
"Dr. Johnson reported that Dr. Holliday's bill would be
paid by the City Clerk. :iir. Stipes asked that the Secretary
send a letter to him in regret that the bill was not paid sooner."
Ivr. Stipes requested that the following correction be made:
Bill Wyllie, Spokesman for the Little League,
proposed the following:
With use of City bulldozer and adequate layouf plan, he
and the other Little League representatives would construct a
2ractice ballfield on the new park property."
Dr. Johnson moved, IIr. Stipes seconded, that the minutes be
approved as corrected. Notion carried.
The Board discussed repairs to the wharf and agreed that the KcGill
wharf repairs should be brought up to the City Council.
I-x. Chatwood moved, Dr. Johnson seconded, that member Stipes be
authorized to discuss the Board's financial proposal with the
City Council. I•Iotion carried.
Bids for repairing the 3 diving platforms were discussed. I•Ir.
Stipes moved that the Recreation Board recommend that the City
Council accept the following low bids for repairing the 3 diving
platforms at the wharf:

Dr. Johnson seconded. Lotion carried.
Ivir. Stipes reported that he had talked with the principals of the
various schools concerning how much of their equipment was
supplied by the Board of Education.
Xx. Chatwood moved, Yx. Stipes seconded, that the Recreation
Board cease supplying the schools with their various equipment
needs. Motion carried.
I•ir. Sarge Turner, representing American Legion Post 1999 sponsors
of a softball program for youths ages 8-14, was assured that work
on the softball field would be completed in time for the beginning
of their season.
The Board agreed that Mr. Jack Kirk and r:r. Jack Stipes be
authorized to get an estimate on repairing the ballfields at the
Colored Park, prepare a drawing of same, and report back to the
Board.
Applications for Recreation Director and Summer Personnel were
tabled until the next meeting.

Kr. Stipes moved, Dr. Johnson seconded that the Colony be asked
to reduce the rent on Stimpson Field to $500.00. Kotion carried.
Dr. Stine recommended that the Board contact the Armory officials
for a working agreement for both the Summer and Winter Recreation
Program.
I;r. Chatwood moved, Dr. Johnson seconded that 1�1r. Stipes and
Dr. Stine be authorized to investigate the possibility of the
Armory, the new high school gymnasium, and the new gymnasium
at Daphne, being used in the Summer and Winter Recreation Program.
Motion carried.
Insurance for the ballfields was discussed. The Secretary was
asked to find out what coverage the City has and report back to
the Board. Mr. Chatwood agreed to look into the insurance
coverage for the various ball teams for a rieport at the next
meeting.
Ur. Chatwood moved, Dr. Johnson seconded, that the Recreation
Board recommend to the City Council that they support their
committee on a site and construction of a Civic Center. Motion
carried.
It was duly 7
