Members present: Dr. Johnson, Mr. Burton, Xr. Stipes and Nir.
Chatwood.
Absent: Mr. Shull.
Guests: Little League Representatives; Mrs, Welker, Mr. and
Mrs. Lindsay and Mrs. Thames representing the Adult
and Tourist Program; Coach W. C. Majors from Fairhope
High School; P1r. Sarge Turner representing American
Legion Post 199; and Jack Kirk, Electric Superintendent.
P2r. Stipes nominated Dir. Burton as Chairman pro tempore, Dr.
Johnson seconded. Motion carried.
The minutes of the previous meeting on January 29 were read
and approved.
Mr. Stipes moved that the Secretary's salary be set at $10.00
per month. Dr. Johnson seconded. Motion carried.
Mr. Burton read the bids for material and labor for repairing
the three (3) diving platforms on the wharf.
Motion by Par. Stipes, second by PIr. Chatwood that clarification
be obtained on these bids and request that Mr. Randall Handers
be present at the next meeting. Motion carried.
Dr. Johnson reported that Dr. Holliday's bill would be paid
by the City Clerk. Mr. Stipes asked that the Secretary send
a letter to him in regret that the bill was not paid.
Mr. Stipes moved that Mr. Anderson be paid for the month of
January. Dr. Johnson seconded. Motion carried.
Mr. Burton reviewed the equipment needs of the various schools.
Mr. Stipes moved that the Board contact the principals of
these schools and find out how much of this equipment is
supplied by the Board of Education. Dr. Johnson seconded.
I -lotion carried.
Mr. Stipes reported on the status of the Swimming Pool, and
stated that Mr. Dyson, City Superintendent, had recommended
the following:
(1) A septic tank for the proposed restrooms until
a sewer line can be laid.
(2) That drawings be made of the various needs and
submitted to the Board of Health.
It was duly moved and seconded that Mr. Shull be asked for
advice on these bathhouse facilities.
Mr. Chatwood and Mr. Jack Kirk submitted a drawing of the Connie
Mack and Little League ballfields and recommended that the
necessary improvements be made at an estimated cost of $511.13
to complete both fields.
Mr. Sarge Turner presented a letter request from Eastern Shore
Post 1999 American Legion, Sponsors of a Softball Program for
youths ages 8-14. The Board granted his requests and recom-
mended that his letter be placed on file.
Mr. Chatwood moved, Per. Stipes seconded that Stimpson Field
be improved at an approximate cost of $500.00 as proposed by
14r. Jack Kirk. Motion carried. It was agreed that the Little
League field should be the primary concern.
Iirs. Welker and Firs. Lindsay reported on the Adult and Tourist
Recreation Program and asked that the Board consider an appro-
priation of $200.00 to carry their program through April.

i�tr. Burton moved, Mr. Stipes seconded to grant 0200.00 to the
Adult and Tourist Recreation Program. Notion carried.
Kr. Burton recommended that the Adult and Tourist Program
representatives consider raising their dues before presenting
their request to the Board next year.
Ur. Chatwood asked that the Secretary make copies of the
original petitions which set up the Recreation Board.
A general study of the financial statement followed.
Mr. Bill Wyllie, Spokesman for the Little League, proposed the
following:
With use of City bulldozer and adequate layout
plan, he and the other Little League representatives would
construct a regulation Little League ballfield on the new
park property.
Mr. Stipes moved that this proposal be brought up to the
members of the City Council. Mr. Chatwood seconded. Motion
carried.
Mr. Burton read an application for employment as Colored
Recreation Director submitted by Annie Mae Allen.
Mr. Stipes moved that this application be taken under advisement.
Dr. Johnson seconded. Motion carried.
Mr. Burton also discussed an application for Recreation
Director from Mr. W. C. Majors, Coach at Fairhope High School.
Ns. Majors discussed problems encountered in operating a
Swimming Pool.
Mr. Stipes moved, DIr. Burton seconded that the meeting adjourn
to meet again on February 24, 1965- Motion carried.
