HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-12-1963 Regular MeetingThe Park and Recreation Board of the City of Foirhope met at 4:00 P.M. April 12, 1963, with the following present: Ernest Bailey, Irving Kamper, Tommy Cotton, E. P. yvakefield, Valter Poser. Visitors, Coach Wayne Floyd and Mr. Barrett. Meeting called to order by Chairman, Mr. Poser. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved with the amendment as' follows "Salary for Recreation Director to go ai-high as �150.00�" per month. Mr. Wakefield and Yr. Kamper reported that there are broken see- saws on the beach, broken horses on Fels Avenue, both broken horses and swings at the School Playground. The Tennis nets at (/ the School need new tapes, and the Boat Ramp on Pier Street needs reworking. Mr. Wakefield suggested that the broken equip- ment at the colored park on Young Street be repaired and moved to the Anna T. Jeans School where more children can enjoy it. Mr. Kamper recommended that the City remove the parking meter post on the beach so as to give more parking room and to improve the senic beauty. After discussion it U,as decided that the Board members would tour the beach to see whether this would be an improvement before making this recommendation to the City. Tommy Cotton reported that the lights on the baseball field are inadequate for night games and Coach Floyd feels that two (2) 75 foot poles with eight (6) lights to the poles will give the needed light. Lotion by Cotton, seconded by Kamper that $1,500.00 be alloted for poles and lights, with work to begin immediately. Carried. Mr. Kamper reported that the Insurance for Summer Recreation Program will have to be split up to cover swimming, tennis, base- ball. Coach Floyd stated that Mutual of Omaha has a policy for blanket coverage, which will fill our need and will turn over all the literature he has to Y.r. Kamper. A recommendation was made b y Ernest Bailey that the City mow the colored park on Young Street. Tommy Cotton reported that Air. Harry Anderson has been contacted and will take the job of Recreation Director at a salary of $150.00 per month. :_otion by Mr. '�,akefield that Mr. Anderson be hired as Director, effdctive immediately, seconded by,Mr. Cotton. Carried. Potion by Yr. Cotton, seconded by Mr. Wakefield that W400.00 be alloted for hats, shirts and pants for four (4) teams or sixty (60) players on the Little League. Carried. A request by Mr. Poser was granted for �2, 500.00 to be given to the Fairhope Band to help with the purchase of,new uniforms. Yotion by Cotton seconded by Kamper. Carried. Lotion made by Mr. K�qmper that a gate be purchased for the Young Street side of the Softball field so that the players do not have to climb the fence to retrieve balls. Seconded by Mr. . Carried.
