P. M. March 18, 1963 with the following members present: W. 0.
Poser, E. P. Wakefield, Irving Kamper and T. A. Cotton. Absent:
Ernest Bailey.
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Mr. Poser. The
minutes of previous meeting were read and amended as follows:
11400.00 plus frieght charges to be allocated for use in buy-
ing playground equipment for Thomas Hospital lawn."
A motion was made by Mr. Vakefield, seconded by Mr. Cotton that
a committee be set up to check all playground equipment includ-
ing tables on the beach, for needed repairs. Report of needed
repairs to be turned in to Mr. Byrne,'qh Motion carried and Mr.
Poser appointed Mr. Kamper and Mr. Wakefield as said committee.
Mr. Byrne gave a report on the progress being made by the City
in securing a building site for the Recreation Building. The
Recreation Board is making a recommendation to the Planing Board
that the F:ecreation Building be placed at the foot of Pier St.,
preferably on the Bay side on site of old Burkel building.
Motion by Mr. Kamper, seconded by Mr. Wakefield. Carried.
Mr. Poser reported that he -had not received a reply to his letter
to the School Board concerning the Gym.
Yr. Poser appointed Mr. Kamper and Yr. Wakefield to find'a quali-
fied Director for the Summer Recreation Program. The director
to have complete charge of any sub -ordinates, with problems to
be co-ordinated with the Recreation Board as necessary, with the
director attending all meetings. The salary for said director
was set at $350.00 per month. Committee to report at 12 April
meeting.
Mr. Cotton presented a list of needed repairs at Stimpson Field.
This list was handed in by Sarge Turner who would like repairs
made in time for American Legion Softball program. Repairs
include fixing existing fencing, cutting grass, dragging field,
filling in road. Sarge also feels additional fencing is re-
quired on Young Street side for safety of children. Mir. Byrne
reported that all repairs have been made with the eikception of
fences. Motion by Mr. 4akefield, seconded by Yr. Cotton that
money be alloted for above material and work. Mr. Cotton to
check on required amount of fencing needed and report to Mr.
Byrne. Carried. 3oa0&_
Motion by Hr. Cotton seconded by ?k1s. Kamper thpt Recreation
Board pay the High chool, as agreed, for one set of bleachers eff,
with the understanding that vie have the use of both sets for
the summer. Mr. Byrne's to see that two sets are moved behind
softball screen and one set behind baseball screen at Stimpson
Field. Remaining set to be put on softball field at Organic
School if needed.
Mr. Byrne's reported that the much needed restrooms and dress-
ing rooms on the beach are to be replaced, it is hoped, in time
for the summer program. It was suggested that warning signs,
including amount of fine�be posted on these buildings to help
cut down on vandilism.
A request has been submitted to the Park and Recreation Board
to allow a skating rink to be put on the beach on the site of
the old Walk In Threate. Recreation Board to recommend to the
City Council that this be allowed with the understanding that
the owner is to pay $25.00 per month rent. Motion by Mr. V;'ake-
field, seconded by Mr. Cotton. Carried.
Mr. Poser asked Yr. Kamper to check on adaquate insurance to
cover children participating in the Summer Recreation Program
and give a repc1rt at the next meeting.
