October 12, 2023

Members present: Paul Fontenot, Chairman, Audra Warren, Carol Sullivan, Knox McMurphy,
Skip Jones, Craig Tappan, Jamie Rollins. Corey Martin, Joanne Hogan and May Moss Parker
were absent.
Paul Fontenot called the meeting to order. The Minutes of the meeting for August 10, 2023,
were considered and approved with a motion by Skip Jones, second by Knox McMurphy, and
unanimously passed.
New member, Audra Warren introduced herself to the committee.
Jamie Rollins provided information to the committee members regarding a 32in Water Oak tree
in the alley at 307B Gayfer Avenue, the resident that lives at this location is concerned that the
tree (in the ROW) needs to be removed, the resident feels this is a safety issue. The resident
believes it is difficult to access the entry, due to the tree. Jamie spoke to the Chief of the Fire
Department regarding the tree and if he felt that accessing the address was a concern, he stated
that they can get by the tree. The resident is also concerned with the fence near the tree. There
was general discussion among the tree committee members and the resident.
Paul stated that there was discussion of the tree trail on the campus of Alabama Coastal
Community College. Audra stated that she is working with the students to locate and add
markers to current and new trees on the campus, this project is not complete.
There was general discussion about the tree trails throughout the City among the committee
members. Paul Fontenot suggested a tree trail throughout the Triangle Park once work begins in
the park. He also suggested planning a field trip to each tree trail and walking it as a group to see
if updates are needed. Paul also inquired about the Eagle Scout project that is currently being
done in North Beach Park.
There was general discussion among the members regarding the tree ordinance and the City and
County right-of-way.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
