1989 at 5:00 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section St.
Present: Chairman, Richard Sanderson; members Maxwell Killoch,
Cecil Pitman, William Lucey, William Richmond, Cindy McBrearty
Secretary Betty Rivenbark and Zoning Enforcement Officer
Robert Lunsford were also present.
Mr. Sanderson had called the meeting to order and remarked that we
did not have any applications to consider but he wished to report that
the Mayor had called and appointed a committee of Dick Sanderson,
Jack Lucey and Bob Lunsford as a liason committee to work with the
Fairhope Single Tax Corporation in establishing zoning for the land that
the FSTC wishes to get annexed into the City. He explained that the
reason for getting it done expediously is that we reed to have it done
for the 1990 census. If there are zoning changes to be considered the
City Council will have to hold a public hearing. Bob commented that the
public hearing could be request for zoning concurrent with annexation.
The question was asked are the properties concerned contiguous, Bob
said in a chain, yes. Mr. Sanderson and Mrs. McBrearty both remarked
that having control of planning that areaas a lump is a real advantage.
An election of officers was held for the coming year. Mr. Pitman said
he wished to nominate the same slate of officers we had for last year;
Richard Sanderson as Chairman; William Lucey as Vice -Chairman; and
Cindy McBrearty as Secretary. William Richmond seconded and motion
carried unanimously.
Cindy brought up possibility of getting with the Adjustment Board, maybe
have Tut Wynne discuss with them purpose of standing behind and enforcing
the zoning ordinance, that she was not real pleased with their recent sign
decisions. She further mentioned Perry Thomas' store, Carey and Mike
Motors and Material Sales. Bob said he had talked with all of these, that
in Perry's case there is a loophole in the ordinance. Cindy said if we
have loopholes we need to close . them up. Mr. Sanderson asked Bob
to come up with the necessary changes to correct wording. The problem
of having more signs than necessary was discussed and it was the Commission'
opinion that the City should have control over the design of the signs.
They suggested that instead of maybe five signs that we could possibly give
them a choice of 2 signs, standard that all would use, of our design.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
