The Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met Monday, April 13, 1992
at 8:00 A.M. at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section St.
Present: Chairman Sue Mason; members Jeanette Puckett, Mike Baugh
and Andy Huggins
The minutes were approved as written from the last meeting and a
financial statement was given by the secretary.
Bay Aircraft Rental was on the agenda. Sue Mason informed the board
that everything was in the hand of the attorneys and that the 3rd and
what we hope final letter has gone out.
Pete Douglas was present with Manly Cummings, an attorney, and Mrs.
Mason said that she would ask Mr. Douglas and Mr. Cummings to speak
first and then ask the Board if they had any questions or comments.
Mr. Cummings related that there seemed to be an uncertainty about
the North boundary line of the leased property at the airport that
Mr. Douglas was leasing. Mr. Cummings went over his letter in
which he had outlined what he thought was 3 options open to Mr.
Douglas., letter in file, and then said that he could pull back southwardly
20 ft. and pay an additional sum for the area, although he feels he has
already been paying. He did say that they would like to settle this as
soon as possible. Mr. Douglas then addressed the board going over
what he thought was events leading up to what he tought he had leased
and stated that the first time he realized there was a problem was when
he came to sign the lease and the secretary tried to give him a copy
of exhibit "A". Mrs. Puckett referred to a copy of a letter she had that
stated that he was ready to lease the land as shown on the airport
layout masterplan. He contended that it did not register with him as
being a problem. Mrs. Mason explained to the people present that the
airport board was only an advisory board and that a report would be
made to the council and consequently it would be brought up at the
next council meeting, kpril 27 1992. At this point the Board took a
vote on whether or not they understood Mr. Douglas had leased the
land at the airport as per the airport layout plan or as what he
is showing on the survey done by Ack Moore. The vote was unanimous
that all felt he had leased land as shown on the airport layout plan.
Mrs. Mason said she would be forwarding a report to the council for
action at their next meeting.
Under new business, Mrs. Mason mentioned that we need street lights
at certain points at the airport and that she had talked to Roy White and
he said for a small fee we could add them to our monthly bill. Mr. Clark
told Sue of some other areas he thought we needed lights. She said she
would like to survey this and talk with the city superintendent before
any decision is made on the additional lights. He said fine. At this time
a motion was made by Jeanette Puckett, seconded by Mike Baugh to add
lights that Sue mentioned, motion carried unanimously.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
