HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-06-1986 Regular MeetingThe Planninq & Zoning Commission of the City of Fairhope met January 6,
1986 at 5:00 p.m. at the City Administration BUilding, 161 N. Section
Street, Fairhope, Ail.
Present: Roy White, Chairman; members Robert Mason, Cecil
Pitman, Cindy McBrearty, Tim Kant, Maxwell Killoch, Richard Sanderson
-The minutes of the December meeting were approved with paragraph
regarding Bill Leavitt re -zone correction where Mrs. McBrearty
"said all present were for it" being changed to Mrs. McBrearty saying
"she sympathized with his problem but the survey showed that
the majority of the citizens did not want any more business developing
out this way." Motion made by Richard Sanderson, 2nd by Cecil Pitman.
The continuation of the public hearing on the re -zone request of
Bill Leavitt from R-I to B-2 property located on Greeno Road
and corner of Gayfer Ave. Ext. some two acres involved was discussed.
Mr. White went over what transpired from last meeting. Amos
Wagner spoke saying his son had joined his business and they were
now going to make furniture and if this was re -zoned it would really
help. Mr. Jansen spoke saying he still had not seen any new houses
built in the area. Bill Leavitt addressed the Commission saying that
he was still at the same point as before, he had looked but had nothing
better to move to. Tim said he had seen a lot of lately on traffic
and he couldn't help but compare this situation to Airport Blvd in
Mobile and that there were very nice neighborhoods running right
to Airport Blvd. That he sees that this is definitely spot zoning and
after hearing Bob Lunsford comments on spot zoning that his only
recommendation would be to forward to the Council with a recommendation
of denial. Max Killoch interjected that it is not in conformity with
the comprehensive plan. Mr. Sanderson said that he did agree that
this was spot -zoning. That he agrees that high quality neighborhood
could be developed abutting commercial and that if someone with the
proper credentials came in possible develop commercial all the way
to Volanta. That this strip should all be developed not just one piece.
Mr. Killoch again interjected that the survey revealed that development
south of Fairhope along Greeno Road was desired. Robert Mason commented
that logically he could see a change to B-2 eventally but this is spot zoning
and he would have to vote against it. All having talked who wished to,
Mr. Sanderson moved to deny rezone request to Council, Maxwell Killoch
seconded and motion for denial was unanimously carried.
Mr. White informed Commission of January 28th public hearing at 5:00 p.m.
in Council Chambers to get public input on comprehensive plan.
(here being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
