The Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met Tuesday, November 12, 1991
at 8:00 A.M. at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street, Fair -
hope, Alabama
Present: Chairman Sue Mason; members Jeanette Puckett, Mike Baugh
Andy Huggins, and Robert Coiling. Betty Rivenbark, Secretary
was also present.
The minutes for the October 14, 1991 meeting were duly approved and the
secretary gave a financial report.
A group from Fairhope Flying Service, Inc. were also present to talk to the
Board.
Ms. Mason addressed the group saying that we had received several proposals
of interested parties in serving as permanent F. B.O.'s at the airport. She
took this opportunity to personally thank Mr. Barnhill and Mr. Statler for
getting the airport operational again in a 72 hour period. That from all
reports they are running the airport with courtesy, prompt service and
confidence. Mr. Statler said that that is what they have tried to do and wish
to continue, that they have furnished Av gas and jet fuel, car rentals and will
have shortly rental aircraft. That they intend to follow the minimum standards
as set out. They mentioned that Teledyne Continental who is now over at
Brookley was shortly going to close their hangar over there and that it
might be 24-30 aircraft would be looking for new places to leave their aircraft.
They said they think they've covered everything we've asked for except
they don't know what they would be facing in ground rent. They think they've
reached a mutual agreement with the bank, but, Mr. Barnhill said that the
bank says talk to us and we say talk to the bank. Sue said we have not
talked about rent yet, she went on to say that we are having the property
appraised. Mike Baugh said that he feels that if they've satisfied the bank
in everything they have asked for he is sure we would be satisfied. Sue
explained the way we wished to handle it was fixed rate Ist 5 years and then
renewable every 5 years after review for a 30 year lease. Mr. McAleer said
he does not know if the bank would go along with that , possible a 15 year
lease. Sue asked if they were going to be offering all the services that an
FBO would have to offer . Mr. Statler possible hire out A & P's. Sue re-
minded him that any sublease would have to come back to the board. The
group asked for a commitment at this time and Sue said we could not give
them one. that considering all the proposals we would have to consider each
one, and we have had several requests, as stated earlier. Sue pointed out
that one of the requirements of the lease is to provide maintenance. At this
time the gentlemen left and the Board considered the other proposals they
had. Note - before they left Sue told them rent would be somewhere in $1500 range,
and that buildings would have to be brought up to code on fire ordinance.
Sue reported that Tut had served the 2nd papers on Fairhope Aero and that it
will be coming to court soon. 1.
On the different groups interested in being FBO how we wished to handle this
was discussed . It was decided getting written proposals from each one and open
in public meeting was how best to handle it. Further discussion was held on
proposals with no definite decisions made.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
