HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-21-1991 Regular MeetingThe Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met Monday, October 21, 1991
at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street in a special
meeting.
Present: Chairman Sue Mason; members Jeanette Ockett, Mike Baugh
Andy Huggins, Secretary Betty Rivenbark. Also present
were Ed Norman and Lee Statler.
Andy reported he had talked with Robbie Robertson and Robbie
had said he would get back with us on getting a rider for the City's
insurance. He said he had talked to him as late as 3:00 p.m. Friday
but so far no word from him.
Sue presented to the board pages proposed on what she feels is an
acceptable amount of rent from what could be the new lease. She
discussed it briefly saying that she did not wish a decision now but
take and study and she would be going by the lawyer's office when
she left here. Sue did mention that it was more than what the bank
is proposing but less than what we had first talked about. Andy
asked why would it he less and the response was to get someone
there.
At this time Mr. Statler said he would like to talk to the Board
about moving to the airport on a temporary basis and setting up an
operation. That he was out there yesterday and he feels it is a
bad situation. He said his group is in a position to set up a temporary
office building, get gas out there and be working by Friday. He said
they are talking to 'the bank about the situation out there now. He
said he was aware of the IRS lien, Sue informed him that there actually
4 liens. Sue told him we are looking for a long term quality operation
and related that we do have a Special FBO under lease now. She said
there are many other movements being looked at, that he is not the
only one that has come forth. Mr. Statler asked about the FBO operation
and said he did not know if the airport could support 2 operations. He
was advised that the special FBO provided air charter flight instruction, maint.
and air cargo service but did not handle fuel sales. That we would be willing
to listen to a temporary proposal for 30-60-90 days but he needs -to understand
that it is temporary and he may have to leave if/when a FBO i-5 permanently
located there. He said he understands that. He was asked what he proposes
to do. He said he has been authorized to offer a building, gas services,
somewhere for the transients to come in. He was asked if he would provide
insurance and indemnify the city and he said yes. He said he would try
to broker the facilities if the bank allows him and his partners to go in.
Andy told him that we. share the same concerns he does. Mr. Statler said
he would have a 24 liour operation and he knows that it will be competitive
situation when the time arises. Mr. Statler and Mr. Norman left and the
board discussed among themselves the proposition he had presented. They
were willing to give him a temporary lease for 90 days with a 30 day renewable
lease at the city's option, with him to provide insurance( indemnifying the city I
provide av gas/jet gas with the utilities and hooking up the unicom being his
responsibility and have them pay no rent during this period. A motion was
made to pursue a temporary lease with Mr. Statler, the secretary to contact
him, and Ms. Mason to talk to the lawyer and have him draw something up.
It is to be stressed to Mr. Statler that this needs to be operational by Friday.
Motion made by Jeanette Puckett, Mike Baugh seconded and motion carried
unanimously.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
