HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-14-1991 Regular MeetingThe Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met Monday, October 14, 1991
at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street.
Present: Chairman Sue Mason; members Jeanette Puckett, Robert
Coiling, Mike Baugh, Andy Huggins, Secretary Betty
Rivenbark
The financial report was given and the minutes were approved as
written with the spelling correction of NOTAM teken.
Ms. Mason opened the meeting by telling the Board of the bank lawyer
calling the FAA and telling them the airport was closed and the confusion
it had caused, but we straightened it out by telling them it was not
closed but unattended at this time. She told of talking with Lonnie
Pardue who had informed her that they had employed James Ingram
but he did not go into detail about what he was doing. Sue reminded
him that they should not be doing anything out there without insurance
to cover any type of operation going on. She asked the board how they
felt about any type of operation without insurance. Mike Baugh said
he felt it was necessary to have insurance for any operation or not
participate. All said they felt the same way. Further discussion led
to Sue asking Andy to check with Evelyn Phillips and the carrier for
City insurance to see what it would take for a liability rider during the
interim period. Sue further related the planes that she saw in the
hangars when she was there that were not operable. She said she
thought they were trying to hire some of the former employees to
finish the planes. Andy asked if there were any signs posted and
Sue replied yes. Jeanette said she wished there was some way to work
with the bank to get someone out there possibly just have the pilot's
lounge open, work the radio. All agreed that it would be better to have
no fuel service until there is insurance. The question was raised how
long this situation might be like this. It was related that there are people
who have expressed an iterest might be coming to look at it, but it may
be an unattended airport for a good period of time. Tut has gotten a
copy of the lease agreement to the bank that we would like to use in
getting a new FBO. Sue had polled the members on accepting rent on
a sliding scale after Mr. Pardue had questioned her about it. No one
had a problem with doing this to help a new tenant get established.
It was suggested meeting next Monday at 8:00 A.M. to see what Andy
has found out about insurance.
Mr. Douglas' status was discussed and he is still paying rent but has
not come forward with any plans or sought any permits.
The possibility of splitting the operation at the airport was discussed
and it was pointed out that no matter what goes in we would have to
have full qualifications presented and review it. Sue said she had been
asked if we would accept a percentage of gross receipts and she had
related that there would be no way to monitor this and that she feels
that really we are looking for a rent situation since we have had such
problems in the past.
There being no further business at this time, meeting was duly adjourned.
