a work study meeting with the Mayor's Committee on Community
Appearance at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope
Avenue, on March 19, 1979 at 5:00 p.m.
Those present: Chairman John Parker, E. Jack Kirk, Bill
Workman, Pierce Frederick, Ted Bennett
Cecil Pitman, James P. Nix, Sam Box, Sr.
Don Pruitt of SARPC, and Mrs. Mary Emma
Potts, Mrs. Cindy McBrearty, and Mr..Har-
field Fields representing Comm. on Comm.Appear.
Mr. Parker showed to Commission members a slide show that he
had sent off for on drainage.
Ken Pritchard hadiasked the Commission to allow him to present
at this time a plan for the new delicatessen he is starting
at the top of the hill on Section Street. He is seeking a
building permit. After discussion a motion was made to grant
the permit with the stipulation that wherever the entrance/exit
was situated he had to insure clear visibility for patrons
entering/exiting. This motion was made by Mr. Nix, 2nd by
Bill Workman and unanimously carried.
At this time the Commission allowed Mrs Potts to express what
the Community Appeance Committee had hoped to accomplish -
the co-ordination of the economic growth with physical appearance
with the businessman.
All the Commission members expressed their feelings and had
questions for the Committee members. They were told that the
Community Appearance Board would help to handle the workload
of the Planning & Zoning Commission by issuing Commercial Building
Permits.
The discussion continued and the meeting ended with the Planning
and Zoning Commission giving their blessing to this new under-
taking of the Community Appearance Board.
