The Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met Monday, May 13, 1991 at
8:00 A.M. at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street.
Present: Chairman Sue Mason; members Jeanette Puckett, Buzz Coiling
Mike Baugh and Andy Huggins. Betty Rivenbark, Secretary
and Pete Douglas was also present.
The secretary gave a financial report and the minutes were approved as
written.
The fire codes at the airport were discussed and Fairhope Aero had submitted
a list of the things they were working on. It was the consensus of the board
to have Mr. Odom take a list out there and go over it with Mr. Lockett and see
what they have accomplished and set priorities in getting the whole facility
under compliance.
Fairhope Aero had also submitted a new list of tie -down payments on who
was current and who was not.
Mr. Douglas was present and said he was here today to sign the lease if
we can agree on time frame for rent starting. The Board said they could
not go with 90 days after the time the lease was signed. Mr. Douglas said
it was not worth fighting about he wished to establish a rapport with the
board and further discussion led to a time being set at June 1st. He was
agreeable to this. The secretary to call him. Sue mentioned that she had
read an article and that in it he said he would have T-hangar space available
and that that was not an option open to him, the city reserves the right to
rent T-hangars. Mr. Douglas said that it is a tough business to make it in and
that he would certainly like to come back at a later date and request an amend-
ment to his lease which would allow him to rent T-hangar space. The Board
asked him to refer inquiries to them so we can fill our T-hangars up(at this
time we have 2 available) Jeanette said as long as the City has theirs filled
this might be feasible, we could review it on a regular bassis. Andy asked
him what space would he have and how many planes. He said space for about
3-4 planes.
Mr. Douglas further said he would like a clarification, that it is his intention
to build the facility but in order to reach this he will also need a ramp and
that there is no mention of the ramp in the lease agreement. Sue said it
goes with the lease. He wanted to know if he will have exclusive use of
the ramp or will Fairhope Aero come down and park their plances on it also?
He went on to say that from the T-hangars to where his leased property begins
there is 375' and he is asking if the city will pave up to that point, that we
also need to look at road in front of T-hangars, and that there is erosion
around the T-hangars. Mr. Douglas was told that the board would have to
meet back on the road request we could not give him an answer at this time.
He was told to talk to Tom Odom about an above ground fuel tank.
Phil Rutherford came in and he was asked about getting a sign made advertising
our T-hangers for rent. He said he will get one made.
Tom Odom came in and said he was about to get his letter typed and he will go
out and talk to Mr. Lockett and set a time limit for getting these things done.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
