The Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met Monday, January 14,
1991 at 8:00 A.M. in the City Administration Building, 161 N.
Section Street.
Present: Chairman Sue Mason; members Jeanette Puckett,
Robert Coiling and Andy Huggins. Chris Leigh
was also present
The minutes of the December 10, 1990 meeting were considered
and were approved as written. A financial statement was given
by the secretary.
The Douglas lease proposal was considered and few minor changes
were suggested by the Board. The changes were to be submitted
to Tut Wynne for review, sent to Mr. Douglas and if he has no
problem with them ready for action by the council at their 1/28/91
meeting. (copy in file) Jeanette Puckett moved, 2nd by Andy Huggins
that barring no problems this is what will be recommended to City Council.
Mr. Lockett was supposed to report on Fairhope Aero's proposed
compliance with fire codes as recommended at last meeting and
tie -down payments but he was unable to attend today.
At this time Mrs. Mason brought up the letter received from
Barney Cutchen stating it would be a hardship for him to pay
T-hangar rent in the amount of $1500 lump sum. Chris Leigh,
was was present ask to speak at this time regarding this. He
said he too objected to having to pay a lump sum rent in advance.
He said he is asking the board to consider going back to the way
we were. Sue Mason explained to him the reason for requesting
that they pay in lump sum, that we were not meeting our bond
indebtedness and we had either two ways to go, raise the rent
or require annual rent in advance. Mr. Leigh pointed out that
we are in a recession and that cash flow is a big problem that
it behooves Fairhope to promote aviation and this is not the
way to help the citizens. Andy said he was the one who is
opposed to going up on the rent and he probably was the one
who thought a year in advance would be all right for the renters.
Mr. Leigh said he understood the position we were in but wished
us to reconsider. Jeanette said she would like to see us work with
them if this is a hardship. That possibly we could give them an
option, pay annual rent or higher rent quarterly. The question of
how much more quarterly was raised and it was decided that the
amount ought to be $415 - $40 more a quarter for $1660 yearly
if they decide to go this way. All agreed this seemed the better
way to handle it, the secretary to write a letter stating options
to T-hangar renters. Andy Huggins put offering this option
to renters in the form of a motion, Robert Coiling seconded and
motion carried unanimously.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
