.•�'' THE FAIRHOPE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
The Fairhope Planning and Zoning Commission met in a special
called session on Monday June 11, 1975 at 5:00 P.M.,at the
City Administration Building , 387 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope
Alabama with Chairman John Parker presiding.
The following members were present: Mayor James P. Nix; Mr.
Harford Field; Mr. Cecil Pitman; Mr. Jack Kirk; Dr. Pierce
Fredrick; Mr. Chester Billie; Mr. Ray Gibson; and Councilman
Barney Shull.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the north
area where residential versus commercial zoningp and .how
the Fairhope Planning Commission plans to treat subsequent
applications for re -zoning. Also, to set a course for pro-
gressing with this effort in order to conclude the reccomendations
for the City Council.
The discussion centered around the boundaries of the Zoning
District Map and its overall effect on long range planning
in the City of Fairhope.
Mayor James-P. Nix moved to reccomend the Zoning District Map
to the City Council as stated in the drawing at this time.
Mr. Harford Field seconded the motion. Motion Carried.
Mayor James P. Nix moved to add the following ammendment to the
above motion:
1. That the property off of Ettel and Fels presently
zoned R-3 be restated as R-5.
Mr. Harford Field seconded the ammendment to"the above motion.
Motion Carried.

Barney Shull moved that the proposed zoning ordinance be
presented to the City Council as a representative document
of the entire Planning Commission, for advertising as required
by law and for a joint public hearing between the Council and
the Planning Commission.
Ray Gibson seconded the motion, Motion carried. �MAA- o�'
The matter of public relations was discussed, so that
the public could be informed of the highlights of the
proposed ordinance and the zoning district map prior
to the joint .hearing between the City Council and the
Planning Commission.
Ray Gibson moved to authorize any member who wishes to
assist the Planning Commission in informing the public
of the I nature of the proposed zoning ordinance and the
zoning district map be allowed to do so. Mr. Cecil Pitman
seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Mayor James P.'Nix brought up the fact that the Baldwin
County Commissioners wanted ten municipalities in Baldwin
County to exercise zoning and sub -dividing within five miles
of the corporate city limits. If the individual municipalities
do not wish to do this the BAladwin County Planning Commission
will exercise this authority.
The Chairman instructed that a letter be written to the
Baldwin County Commissioners stating that the Fairhope
Planning Commission plans to exercise the authority of zoning and
sub -dividing within a five mile area of the corporate limits
of the City of Fairhope.

Mr. Ray Gibson made a motion that the Fairhope Planning
Commission exercise planning and zoning authority within
a five mile area outside the Fairhope city limits at any
time the authority can be secured.
Mr. Cecil Pitman,,seconded the motion. Motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 7:10 P.M.
