The Fairhope Planning and Zoning Commission met in regular session
at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, on Monday,
July 1, 1974 at 5:00 P.M. with the following members presents
Chairman John Parker, Mayor James P. Nix, Sam Box, Chester Billie,
Dr. Pierce Frederick, Harford Field and Cecil Pitman. Members absents
Ray Gibson and Jack Kirk.
Motion by Mr. Field seoonded by Mr. Pitman that minutes of the previous
regular meeting and special study session be approved as corrected.
Motion carried.
The request for building permit for Hardee's to be located at the
S. E. corner of Fairhope Avenue and Greeno Road was brought up for
discussion. It was brought to the attention of the Applicants and
Commission members that the application for permit was submitted on
the day of the last Commission meeting and the procedure of the
Commission is that all applications must be in at least 10 days before
the meeting, therefore there has been no delay in acting on this request
and this hearing is in accordance with Commission procedure. The
Planning Consultant reviewed Hardee's site plan and reported that
the application met requirements and was in order for issuance of a
building permit. The Commission requested that the building be set
back in order to achieve additional right-of-way for proposed four
laving of Greeno Road. Tentative plans of the State Highway will
require and additional 84 ft on the East side of Green; Road. After
general disoussion, Mayor Nix moved that the permit be granted with
the exception of the sign which is required by Ordinance to be set
back 50 ft. on Greeno. Motion seconded by Dr. Frederick.

and the construction on this corner would further blind the corner.
Chairman of the Commission oalled_for vote on the motion with the
following results: Voting Pori Mayor James Nix and Dr. Pierce Frederick,
Voting Against: Chairman -Parker, Cecil Pitman, Sam Box and Chester
Billie, Mr. Harford Field abstained from voting. Motion defeated.
The request of W. 0. and A. A. Haas for permit for addition to mini
warehouse at Broom Street and Fairhope Avenue was granted on motion
by Mayor James Nix and,seconded by Mr. Pitman. Motion carried.
Motion by Mr. Field seconded by Dr. Pierce Frederick that the Committee
release four articles on Community Development Plan, as presented, to
the Fairhope Courier in the next four weeks. Motion carried.
Copies of the Community Development Plan are in City hall for loan
to interested parties,'with copies to be distributed to all Department
Heads of the City, Councilmen, Chairman of the various Board, Library,
Baldwin County Commission, County Industrial Board, F. S. T. C. and
Banks.
The Commission expressed their gratitude to Mr. Pruitt, Planning
Consultant, on the oommendablb job that the South Alabama Regional
Planning Commission has done on oompiling the Community Develop-
ment Plan.
Motion by Mr. Field seoonded by Mr. Box that Chairman Parker be
authorized to sign oontraot, after reviewing, with South Alabama
Regional Planning for Subdivision Plan at a oost to the City of
$1,305.00. Contraot to be submitted to the City Counoil for their
approval. Motion oarried.
Motion by Mr. Box seoonded by Mr. Field that the Commission offioially
adopt the Community Development Plan and reoommend to the City Counoil
for their adoption. Motion oarried.
A letter from Mr. and Mrs. Thomas $. Horne was read to the meeting
and on motion by Mr. Field seoonded by Mr. Box, letter was made a
part of the minutes of this meeting. Motion oarried.
