The Fairhope Planning and Zoning_ Commission met in regular
session on(Ifonday_, I:arch 1, 1971fat 5:00 P.M. in the City Hall.
Present: Chairman John Parker, members Macon, Fredericks, Kirk,
Bung, Box.
Absent: Members Pitman, Gates, Arnold..
Visitor: George Dyson,and., from the Regional Planning Commis-
sion, Mr. Capps, Mr. Castooni, Mr. Pruitt.
No old. business
New Business: Application for rezoning for Mary and Mack Bolden
a parcel of land in the policejurisdiction off Young Street
and Fairland, decribed below, from R-1 to A-3.
Mr. Macon moved that this be turned over to the City Council for
advertising. Mr. Bung seconded the motinn. Motion carried.

discussed. Mr. Macon made motion for approval of construction
of this apartment- Mrericks seconded. Motion carried..
Chairman discussedle hiring of Bob Bateman, planning con-
sultant; also the xxtng possibility of using the Regional
Planning Commission to its fullest extent. The Regional Plan-
ning Commission requested that tke City give Mr. Bateman an
,answer to his pooposal before they could. give the Fairhope
Planning Commission a complete answer.
l,Mr. Castoloni explained that in their planning they did not stop
.--.at city limits but had to continue into the surrounding area.
He showed maps of the surrounding area for water and sewer and. p
passedout newsletter showing a part of their works.He mentioned
among theseair transportation, solid waste disposal, open
space programs, land use, water traspnrtation, air pollution,
citizens participation, social agencies.
Local Planning. Mr. ParkeXjsked what would you do for us, or
what do you suggest for us local planning. Mr. Castoloni

Local Planning. Mr. Parker asked what Mr. Castoloni would
suggest for us on local planning. It was recoT ,pri,.eftthat, first,
the council, the Comais,;.un, and tiie xluca_& c,. u zun_ o6 the
community determine their planning objectives and goals, after
which, secondly, an outside planning expert make a reconnais-
sance study to assess the current status of our community. These
two steps definitely should precede any General Development
Plan , in Mr. Castoloni's opinion.

Planning Commisssion to discuss our problems and. plans,! for the
future. No date was set for this meeting.
Chairman Parker and Mr. Box expressed appreciation to the
members of the Regional Planning Commission for .meeting with
the Commission and for their work for the City of Fairhope.
