HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-31-1990 Regular Meeting19 The Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met January 31, 1990 at 8:00 A.M. at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street. Present: Chairman Mason McGowin, members Russ Kilgore, Jeanette Puckett, Buzz Colling, Pete Douglas Mason opened the meeting stating that the three things we needed to talk about today were: 1. Getting the lessee to come into compliance with the minimum standards 2. Jack Boykin lease 3. Possibility of getting more T-hangars He addressed Greg Cox, who was present representing Duncan Aircraft the present lessee at the airport. He said that there are some lease requirements that should not be there and he is just interested in either having them come into compliance or have them eliminated from the lease. He stated that the Board was suppose to review the fuel adjustment amount being paid to the City in April of '89 but that he had let it slide in an effort to work out something with Byron Lassiter(local attorney working for Duncan) . That is is not a problem mot but at some point in the future it could be. The places that he is out of compliance with the minimum standards are in providing flight instruction and 10,000 sq ft of hangar space. Greg responded that it was his understanding that there was an amendment to the lease that states that the lessee "may" provide these services. Greg went on to say he has a list of people in this area who do flight instruction. The Board expressed surprise at hearing of amendment that they were unaware of. Mr. Cox related what they had paid in fuel payments for '89. Mason said he thought that the* rent is too low, that Duncan needs to think about what he thinks is fair for the facilities and type of operation he is running. Greg said from the discussion he thinks he has a fair idea of what to work with and come back with a figure to discuss. The grass cutting they are doing was discussed and the fact that they have over 50 people hired there, brings jobs to the area. Mason said that everything is based on fuel sales only right now and that is not fair, that we need to rework the lease and get what is fair and equitable for the City. Tut Wynne, the City Attorney was present and Mason asked him to look over the lease and get with Byron Lassiter who represents Mr. Duncan in Fairhope to see just what is stated in the lease and minimum standards. Mr. Duncan came into the meeting after it was started and Mason asked him if he had plans for expansion at the facility, or what he planned to do in the future. He said he did, as a matter of fact he was going to talk to the Mayor about these. At this point Mason said that there was no further need for Mr. Cox and Mr. Duncan to stay that the Board had other business to discuss that did not pertain to their operation. Mason brought up that he had gotten a number of calls about getting more T-hangars and that he felt we would have them filled as soon as we had them built but he did not have the time to devote to the project. Mason also brought up the Boykin lease, and that he feels that he is no longer interested in space at the airport. No one was sure at what point we stood on this, to be checked into. There being no official business to record the secretary was told she did not need to stay.
