Absent: Members Pitman, Niemeyer.
Visitors: Mr. Bateman, Lockwood, W. Wilson, Cummings,
Dial, Olson, Dyson and Youn.
Minutes of September meeting approved as read.
Mr. Bateman introdueed Mr. Lockwood, new member of his organiza-
tion.
Dr. Stine was introduced as new member of Commission, replacing
Mr. Stipes.
Old business: Request of W. N. Olson to rezone from R-2 to
B-2 lots 22 and 23, block 12 Volanta Subdivision,
Walter Wilson agent for Mr. Olson stated that prospective
buyer planned a wholesale and retail appliance business which
requires B.2 Zone.
Mr. Dial stated he had sold his L.P. gas business so he had
no intentions of using this property for L.P. tanks or trucks.
A letter from Mrs. Julia Sibley, vicinity property owner ob-
jecting to this rezoning was read and placed on file.
Mr. Bateman requested that the minutes record that in his
opinion "continuous rezoning on Section Street will present
a Problem to the City in the future" and that strip zoning
is detrimental to orderly growth of the business district.
Mr. Dial explained his reasons for desiring this location.
Motion by Mr. Macon, seconded by Mr. Gates that the Fairhope
Planning and Zoning Commission eecommend to the City Council.
the rezoning from R--2 to B-2 lots 22 and 23, block 2, Volanta
Sub -division provided any building beset back ?O-feet from
the center line of Section Street and 60 feet from the center
line of Gayfer Street. Motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Bateman discussed his list of suggested activities for
the commission. Mayor Macon agreed to set up joint meeting
with the City Council to discuss action on the list.

FAIRHOPE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION, CONTINUED
Question as to zoning status of lots 13 and 14 Oswalt
Bubdivision, located on Southeast corner of Fels and
Section Streets recommended for B-1 zoning by the Com-
mission May 8, 1957 was brought up. Mr. Bateman stated
that unless the City Council took affirmative action
on the Planning Commissions recommendations this property
is still in residential zone.
Plans for new building for Moore Engineering Co., located
on North Section Street were displayed and given prelimin-
ary approval subject to final approval of building in-
spector, Mr. George Dyson.
There being no further business, meeting adjourned.
