The Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met June 8 1989
at 8:00 A.M. at the City Municipal Administration Building,
161 N . Section Street
Present: Chairman Mason McGowin, members Jeanette
Puckett, Robert Coiling, Jim Gaston, Russ
Kilgore. Byron Lassiter, Atty, representing
Fairhope Aero was also present. Betty Rivenbark
Secretary
Mr. McGowin said the purpose of the meeting today is to
discuss a request from Fairhope Aero to agree to an assignment
of lease; appointing a new member; and maintenance at the airport.
Mr. Byron Lassiter spoke to the Board regarding their request
for an assignment of the lease from the present lessee Fairhope
Aero to First Florida Bank. Mr. Joe Duncan dba Fairhope Aero
is wishing to establish a $5,000,000 line of credit with First
Florida Bank and in return they are asking for an assignment
of assets which would include leasehold at Fairhope Airport.
At this time Mr. McGowin brought out several of the leasehold
violations which need to be straightened out such as: mowing,
all of the property at least once a year; trash problem with
the dumpster; and having behind the paint building the trenches
backfilled. Mr. Lassiter said he is sure Mr. Duncan would want
to know of the violations and that he will certainly pass them
on. Mr. McGowin said he is not planning to hold up the nego-
tiations on the matter but they need to be taken care of. Mr.
Lassiter said he felt Mr. Duncan just needed to get a clear
understanding of what is expected. Mr. McGowin told Mr. Lassi-
ter that Willie Street had two mowers and that he felt sure he cu.&A
handle the grass cutting for him. Also, the lease says that
there will be 20,000 feet of T-hangar space provided and a
charter service/w flight training as well as a constructed
automobile parking lot. All agreed that these are things
that needed to be worked on. Byron said that he would make
Mr. Duncan aware of these problems, but we also needed to
move as expeditiously as possible. Further discussion led to
the Board saying the City Attorney needed to review assignment
and if he finds everything all right then Board would recommend
approval of assignment of lease as requested. Jeanette moved,
seconded by Jim Gaston to make the recommendation to the City
Council to approve the assignment of lease as requested if after
reviewed by City Attorney everything is okey.
Mason asked Jim Gaston to reconsider retiring from the Board but
he said he wished to do so, the Board will consider a new member
when his resignation is submitted.
Mason reported to the Board on the visit from the Atlantic Southeast
representative.
Mason further reported that he thought we had enough interest
to do a second t-hangar project but he did not have time to do it.
There being no further business', meeting was duly adjourned.
